空の軌跡 // Trails in the Sky ⚔ Story Club・Week 21

Oof, being a dialogue completionist for this game must indeed suck. The good thing is that, due to my weak Japanese (especially back when we started this club), I immediately realized that it was pointless for me to even try. I do try to talk with most NPCs but I don’t make the effort to go out of my way to see if that woman upstairs in that random house in the other part of town happens to have a new line of dialogue.

For me the fact that there’s so much dialogue I don’t get to experience actually contributes to making the world feel more real in a way. If I decide to talk to the NPCs I know that they’ll have something unique to tell me, but also if I don’t I’m probably not missing anything important. Just like real life!

That one is rather common in my experience. Didn’t they just add it to WaniKani? Or is it 姪?

That one also comes up a lot, both in fantasy and also stuff taking place in old Japan.

Yeah, the amazing amount of changing NPC dialogue is both a gift and a curse. Really draws you into the world and it’s fun to see these micro-plots emerge and develop within the game… but also, each big city feels like a huge undertaking.

I sometimes forget to look everywhere, so it’s not like I got 100% of the dialogue either. I guess there’s always the chance to replay this on PS Vita, now that I bought it…

I had this already in my deck via 男爵 (from 星界の紋章), but not 公爵. Whoops. I guess I didn’t have it “burned” because I didn’t recognize it right away. But yeah this is bound to come up again and again in sci-fi and fantasy works.

Edit: now that I look, I also have 伯爵 there already… might as well just add the whole 五等爵.

Yeah there are a bunch of titles featuring the kanji like 公爵、侯爵 (both pronounced こうしゃく, confusingly)、伯爵、子爵⋯
