Yeah, there was a session where Murata read a few passages from Konbini ningen, and there was some discussion around it. At least @Belerith and I watched it, and I think some other WKers were in the audience as well. There were some technical struggles unfortunately, but overall I thought it was very nice. Although everything took very very long because the translation was not simultaneous but in series. On the other hand, it was very interesting to hear how certain things were being translated
I finished the book and let’s just say that it has scared me away from reading any other Murata books for a while. It wasn’t bad, but I found it very unpleasant to read much of the time.
Bought this book because they recommended it on ほんタメ. I am done with week 1s reading. I am pretty desperate to finish something this month since I haven’t finished a book to completion since July.
Awesome! Have you read any Murata before or are you going in blind?
I’ve read コンビニ人間 before. I loved that book. This one’s set up is a little harder to follow but week two isn’t so bad. I read the week 1 thread which cleared things up a bit for me.
IIRC the language isn’t much harder than コンビニ, but some of the premises are so outrageous that there’s a lot of “wait, did I really just read that correctly?” which definitely made it feel harder. Enjoy! And don’t hesitate to post in the old threads!
I haven’t had a lot of trouble reading as much as understanding what’s happening. I had the same problem in school. I got over with more reading and exposure but it’s where I’m at with Japanese now.
World building rules are always really hard for me understand in Japanese.
