As you get to higher levels, you come across less frequent words, which seem kinda new. I started reading recently so that might change a bit. But, the main reason I think is coming across words you see less.

Ah, that would make sense. Mnemonics can only get you so far…

I’d say follow the various book clubs we have here (whatever suits your level). That way, you can discuss your doubts, etc. Reading together helps you remain motivated (imo) :smiley:

I have just opened the gates for level 22. If I suffered with (some) kanji at level 21 I cannot imagine how painful level 22 will be.
