本好きの下剋上: Volume 3, Week 9 discussion

Well, not exactly, since “bishop” is a Christian term, which has no relevance in this world. He is just the “head of the temple”, but that’s a mouthful.

Hm, that’s a tough call. I feel it can be guessed, but it’s not explicit until volume 4~5, once we see more. Same goes for this:

That’s really the end of volume 5 that struck it home for me because (minor volume 5 spoilers, obviously) you would expect rules, right? But no.

It’s the official translation. This world has borrowed a lot of other things from Medieval European culture, like guilds and knights and whatnot. I don’t think bishop as a title really stands out too much.

Well, as someone who is not Christian, it feels kinda weird to me to use that term when nothing warrants it, but I’m not specifically against it either. I’m actually surprised the official translation decided to use the term, though.

I’m not super familiar with Christianity either, but all the pomp and circumstance in the book did smack me a bit of Catholicism.

That’s fair (as far as I know; again, not an expert ). I guess I didn’t make the connection because they have a polytheist religion.
