I am having trouble remembering the meaning is “to perceive” or “to catch” and noticed it considers “to search” to be correct.
You mean as a “close enough” spelling mistake acceptance? Or it’s a whitelist item that is accepted without any message.
How would I tell the difference? It just accepts it. It is not on the list of accepted terms, if that’s what you mean.
Both of the possibilities I mentioned would involve it not being on the list you see on the item page.
If you make a spelling mistake on an item, but it’s still pretty close to the actual spelling, a note that says this will pop up.
“Your answer was a bit off. Check the meaning to make sure you are correct”
That didn’t happen? I can’t test it because of my level. It’s possible that “to search” is close enough to “to catch” in terms of the number of characters off that it accepts it as a fuzzy spelling error. This is the intended functionality of the spell checker. Of course, if there’s some reason to think “to search” is a meaning that people will often confuse with it, then it can be added to the blacklist.
If that didn’t happen, that it would mean it’s on the whitelist, which would be odd.

I think it’s due to it being close enough in spelling. It should be blacklisted, as that kanji is taught around the same time as one that means “to search”, which is why I’m having the issue.
I have verified the allow list for 捉える with Item Inspector. It is empty. So it is accepted due to typo tolerance. @Mods
