I think the only VN I played seriously was the first Ace Attorney trilogy (in English) but I don’t know if it even qualifies as a proper VN so I’m curious to give this a try.

Yeah I think Ace Attorney is kind of on the edge depending on who you ask, same for Danganronpa since you’re doing that now. The medium can be a little messy but I love it personally; it’s a big part of why I’m here learning Japanese. And really Fata Morgana is a lot more focused than most, probably not a bad place to start.

You know, not that I put much stock in metacritic, but as a fun fact I had forgotten and it just randomly occurred to me how the Switch version of Fata Morgana is the 25th highest rated game ever there. For a medium as niche as VNs I think it’s awesome they managed to sneak a representative into the 3rd best Switch game slot.

Hype cycles do be weird sometimes, but this is such a weird experience that I can’t help but admire it 
It’s a strange event made by people who in my opinion aren’t very much into video games and by not knowing the tropes, they were able to avoid them and accidentally make something EXCEPTIONAL. It’s SO GOOD.

I dunno a ton about Keika Hanada, but he did cite both Danganronpa and Ace Attorney as influences on Fata Morgana, so he’s not totally out of the loop there. Agree about it being great and pretty unique as a VN, all the same.
Fantastic game though, and I THOUGHT I remembered it previously being ranked even higher, but then started second guessing if I just saw reference to its placement among Switch games or something else so I didn’t mention it. Thanks for reminding me!
