My version’s bird, very different vibes in this image. Both are nice in their own way I think. While the visuals are so different I think they preserved the overall tone they set in the VN well, still.
I had forgotten what a nice pace this moves along at! メル is still sweet and awkward; I want good things for him.
Figured I’d share my version of this painting too. This particular image makes me feel like 旦那様 probably needs some corrective lenses.
This image might not be very different IIRC, it’s just really nice and I wanted to generally appreciate it.
I know the same thing has been done in my Umineko group before, so no worries haha, you aren’t the first.
There was one specific song so far that was entirely too short and looped 20 times on me.
I really enjoy the music so far though, so I don’t mind too much.
The loops are kind of unusually obvious in this game as well, and there are some on the shorter side like that. Agreed though, I love the music so I’m willing to overlook that kinda thing.

it feels like music in this game has a natural progression, intro part, middle part, ending part, and then it leaves you with this moment of solemnity to contemplate whatever is on the screen now xddd
Also one of the music starts with the same note as Clair de Lune… gets me everytime!

I really enjoy these sort of “stories inside stories” which are used as a parallel to explain the actual characters of the story. I think it was really well done here.

So happy people seem to be getting into it! I think I’m nearing the end of Door 1 as well; the way things start happening it is kind of hard to talk in the middle, I agree. Started to write something earlier but I couldn’t really come up with what to say.

Haha, turns out I was really close, needed only 2k more and I finished Chapter 1.
Thoughts (big spoilers, only read when you're done with Chapter 1)
Couldn’t stop reading when I got to the part where the girl with white hair goes in Mel’s room.
What a roller coaster. First she maybe wants to kill him. Then he confesses. Then she explains everything. Then she seems to accept him.
And then the theater, poor Nellie 
(she was also not being nice to the girl but I still think the slap was to much) (loved the music though)
Then the mystery with the picture, I wasn’t expecting that, and such nice music again.
Wild theory: Mel’s mom was pregnant, but the girl that was born didn’t have flax hair. They banished the painter of the picture with the baby (who had white hair). Then Mel’s mom got a new baby, this time the hair color was OK, they kept her (Nellie).
Maybe that’s what Nellie is thinking too? Since she asked the girl with white hair about her dad’s hair color. Then maybe the knife was to cut a piece of her hair?! (and also maybe that’s why Mel’s mom took the girl in, she either recognized her or sympathized when she saw her, thinking of her own lost child with white hair)

Nellie completely snapped, loved it when she laughed during that scene x) (and new vocab, 種違いの妹)
Nice to end with a flashback at them when they were children like at the beginning of door 1, and with the great music again 
Happy that Mel got a chance to talk with the girl with white hair again. Though now it seems that it’s him who completely lost it x) 知っているのはネリーだけだ……ネリーはすぐいなくなる……大丈夫だよ……
Ooh well she left again.
Well that what a wild ride. The pace was really satisfying, I loved how fast things moved. The music and the effects were great. Now I wonder what will be behind door 2!
Chapter 1 end thoughts
Yeah the ending here was really just a wild ride.
I am pretty sure that the “Wild theory” is exactly what happened, else it wouldn’t make sense with what was written on the picture.
Also with Mel banging at the church door, and the girl with white hair reaching out to him, only for him to shout at her thinking she’s a filthy beggar, and then realizing his mistake was such a brutal moment for me.
And I really liked how at the end, the girl referenced the story she told us earlier, saying “I think the girl never wrote those letters”, it was really just so good writing.
What a beautifully tragic door 1.
Chapter 1 end thoughts
Yes, when I wrote the “wild theory” idea, it was when Nellie found the date on the picture, and maybe the second text, so I wasn’t sure yet. I was happy that I had guessed correctly, but hard to say if the game made it easy for me, would be curious to know if others have guessed as well before it’s revealed!
Agreed with you on all the other thoughts exciting to see what’s to come, this is already a pretty good story in itself!
Damn speedrunners. I was too tired to play yesterday, I barely just met the new 侍女.

Finished Door 1! Full door spoilers
Once you get to the reveal, it’s darkly funny how メル was repeatedly warned by the priest to be careful about the family background of the white haired girl. And with this I finally come across 種違い, to complete the pair with 腹違い which I’ve known for a while. They feel like very… blunt terms.
I really love the presentation of that scene of them as kids with the alternate music without the singing, the background getting more warped over time. They do so much with little touches here.
I agree this is a really nice self contained little tragedy. ネリー is pretty messed up but I mean yeah, she’s basically not allowed to be as much of a person as the men in the story, so something like this is what you get. That scene of her with アーサー makes me feel so bad for her. Can’t blame her for getting attached to seemingly the only person who didn’t treat her like an object. But it seems like part of growing up for メル was ingraining these customs to the point that he just finds it annoying that she doesn’t want to be pretty much sold off. Obviously he shouldn’t do what she wants either, but he does spend this chapter getting so absorbed in his own problems that he never really shows any sympathy at all for her. Then it’s so deliciously twisted how メル unknowingly falls for someone who is his sister anyway. It’s really tightly written, no excess here at all.
We’ll have to see how I feel about them on a reread, but I recall back then that door 1 was one of my least favorites. Not to say it’s not good, I’m just being hit with “oh yeah this is why I loved this VN so much huh, it was THIS good” while knowing that if I feel similarly this time, it’s only up from here.
