ファタモルガーナの館 // The House in Fata Morgana: Door 2 (Visual Novel Informal Club)

Nice! Yeah it makes sense to take a break between doors.
I will try to catch up with my book clubs first, but I think I’m close to the end with door 4 so it could be soon!

I have made good progress with Pauline hearing about the beast and that kid’s parents demise but then I got to the flashback with her parents and there was an onslaught of tricky vocab when I didn’t have my dictionary with me so I ended up playing DanganRonpa instead.

Yeah, you are definitely playing in hard mode!

Something I’ve been meaning to share that I came across just posted on Steam –

Full door 2 spoiler

I haven’t gone back to see exactly how it’s presented, but according to a guide on Steam that happened to pop up explaining aspects of door 2’s twist, the moment early on when we see the sprite for “the merchant” that matches Yukimasa’s is actually the game pulling some sleight of hand. Obviously we would be led to assume that that is the merchant and not the beast, but what we’re shown is a moment of hesitation where Yukimasa briefly views himself as a human again when treated as such by the visitor. I’d be curious to check back and see if any part of it feels like it steps over a line to pressing too hard on what we’re seeing being the merchant or if it is just the natural assumption, but I think it’s kind of a neat trick and wraps this up better because when we left it at “oh wait, it DID show Yukimasa for the merchant…” that felt kinda bad and cheap.

@Akashelia @Starzor Since we talked about this before, want you all to see :slightly_smiling_face:

But I’m invested now, I want to finish this door and know if Pauline gets her ham sandwich. Or if Bestea gets a Pauline sandwich, alternatively.

Could Bestia be Beast in Portuguese by the way?

Not really, it would be besta or fera. There’s also the adjective bestial like in French.

Also besta in European Portuguese pronunciation would be something like べシュタ.

I’m fairly sure the べステア must be loosely based on some word for beast but I don’t know if it matches any language specifically.

I played for like two hours and I’m still not done with door two despite going reasonably fast… I feel like I’m getting close though, the various threads are converging.

Could have been a misspelling like in FLOWERS, but seeing how this VN is vague about location, that could have been on purpose too.

Yep that smells like the end! Also door 2 was longer than door 1 according to my character count so not surprising that it took you longer.

Ok I definitely need to memorize 得体の知れない and 翡翠.

My brain just doesn’t want this one to properly stick but I’ve seen it pretty often across various things now, yeah.

Read 薬屋のひとりごと if you want to fix that. Number of times used in the first volume: 42 (thought it would be more actually)

Aaah, Japanese authors and their inability to end a story quickly. Sure why not, let’s add a smuggling investigation flashback to our already complicated story.

Let me finish this bloody door already!

Thinking about it like that is actually so cool, I like it.

I read for 8 hours today, door 5 only, and I didn’t finish it. I’m not mad, I’m enjoying the game, may it be as long as it wants

It’s certainly a good workout, makes the other games I’m playing feel easy in comparison…
