I was a little thrown by the furigana on this week’s chapter title 心傷. Jisho has an entry for an archaic term 心傷 (read in kun’yomi as こころやぶれ) meaning “heartbreak” or "grief", but nothing with those kanji read as “しんしょう”. I also couldn’t find it in any other dictionary online.
WaniKani teaches heartbreak as 傷心 with the kanji in reverse order. (I guess it’s not always true, but for jukugo (熟語), doesn’t the modifier usually appear to the left of the main noun (Semordnilap), so 心傷 ≠ 傷心?)
“Heartbreak” didn’t make much sense with the chapter, but someone online said that 心傷 is sometimes used in manga and light novels as an abbreviation for 心の傷 (こころのきず) = emotional scars / mental trauma. Poor 五所さん…
It’s times like this where I start to think the author is actually doing something non-standard. So maybe this is just “heartbreak” with a reading that’s technically incorrect, but native speakers would understand?
A lot of good art in this chapter. I cheated in reading using kanjitomo for the words and stuff I had trouble with.
A bit slower-paced than the fast action of the previous volume but still good.
