[guy who’s fun at parties voice] Well actually, :index_pointing_up: poisonous is when you eat the snake and get poisoned, venomous is when it bites you and you get poisoned. So the hard way to find out if it’s poisonous is to touch and/or eat it. :nerd_face:

Man, it took me a long time to read through the snake stuff. I also read the heat stroke info page though too. I can’t wait for this stuff to get a little easier, but also I’m glad that these readings are all relatively short.

Anyway, the choice was to “avoid the snake” which is what you all did by choosing the other option I guess. :stuck_out_tongue:

Choice

So the choices are “Do nothing” and “Do something” while sinking. Seems easy.

What I enjoyed learning

の話だが → adds a tone of “that’s only if…” or “that’s assuming…”

Vocab I’ll forget
  • ひどく - very / terrible / awfully
  • 背負う (せおう) - Carry [put] on one’s back/shoulder
  • 丘 (おか) - hill
  • ずぶずぶ - in mud sound
  • とっさに - quickly
  • ぶじに - safely / successfully

ひどい is rather common and useful (it’s taught on WK as 酷い, although I don’t know if I have ever seen it spelled that way in the wild).

That one is extremely common and well worth learning, sometimes spelled 無事.

My first thought there was みにくい, for which that is the wrong kanji anyway (that’s 醜), but that’s how rarely it appears written with kanji. (Funnily enough, 残酷, no trouble whatsoever :upside_down_face:)
