Welcome to the アオのハコ (Blue Box) Book Club Volume 6 discussion thread! You can find the home thread here. Feel free to discuss chapters, ask questions, and share resources on the volume here.
Of course they went with the “I don’t need an answer right now” approach. If not, one of the central tensions of the series would be resolved. Still, it’s nice having at least one person’s feelings out in the open. And now Chinatsu heard about the love confession! I can’t wait to see what happens there.
I read this week’s chapter last week, because I couldn’t stop at the end of last week! I figured there would be a stay-in-the-same-hotel-room situation, and I was right!
Story comments
Chinatsu apologized for drawing a line between them. Does that mean she doesn’t want there to be a line between them, despite them living together? I wonder what she was going to say just before her final apology.
I also wonder if Nagisa will realize it was Taiki’s voice she heard the next time she hears him speak.
I read this one right after last week’s chapter because the chapter title made it sound like some butting of heads was going to happen between the girls or something.
Imagine my surprise when it was actually just Chinatsu’s mom tearing into a character in a drama, and unknowingly, her daughter as well
You know I had to read ahead last week given how the previous chapter ended So I had already read this week’s reading.
Story comments
I’ve seen enough of these stories that I feel pretty confident in my prediction that Taiki will end up with Chinatsu. But the story has successfully made me want to cheer for Hina. She’s really going for it! It’s refreshing in a genre often defined by nobody voicing their feelings until the very end.
vague horimiya and blue box spoilers about these romance dilemmas, but i wont say who 'wins'
I didn’t really notice it until I went and reread the chapter of horimiya for the club today, but I realized a lot of my favorite characters in these stories are the ones who ‘lose’ the love triangle, but still find ways to move on past that. Staying interesting and respectful characters and moving on despite not being able to get what you want is a really powerful character trait for me. My favorite character in horimiya is a loser, my favorite character in oregairu is a loser, but in blue box I’m not even sure if I have a favorite character They’re all so compelling and I wish somehow everyone could win without getting hurt but something something something like in sports sometimes there can be only one winner no matter how good everyone is something something
I’m just glad when the destined characters aren’t a train wreck when together (ラブひな, ニセコイ).
I feel ストロボ・エッジ did a great job of handling its character in this position, alongside just doing an overall great job of handling character motivation.
I also feel 藤原くんはだいたい正しい did a decent job in how things ended up for the bad ending character, except I never found that character to be likable.
i’ve still really been meaning to get around to ストロボ・エッジ, but I was planning to finish サクラ、サク first, but then just like, forgot I was reading サクラ、サク that’s a nice lil motivation push though
That one’s coming up for me, but first I’ll be reading 思い、思われ、ふり、ふられ.
Considering the time it took me to get through ストロボ・エッジ’s ten volumes (although part was due to financial constraints keeping me from buying new volumes), 思い’s 12 volumes might keep me occupied for a while before I reach サク.
But if サク isn’t complete yet, I don’t mind giving it time to finish up.
I liked アオハライド well enough, but I really enjoyed ストロボ・エッジ. I’m curious where the mangaka’s latter two series will land for me.
Not really spoilers for anything in particular but still
This is exactly how I always am whenever there’s an おさなじみ, I always find myself rooting for them and they (almost) always lose
While I’m rooting for both girls equally, Hina won my heart both because she’s more of an おさなじみ to Taiki, but also because I love her character and she actually had the guts to confess.
(for more proof of my love for the おさなじみ characters look no further than my completely healthy obsession with Onodera from Nisekoi)
