よつばと! Reading club

It never occurred to me even once that ジュラルミン might be a strange word she picked up somewhere instead of a strange word that’s complete nonsense and so this was a big shock last night:

Apparently it’s a real material you can make arrows out of.

I guess if I’d ever looked it up I would have seen “common word” under it, but somehow not believed it… “duralumin” just… sounds more like something Yotsuba would make up than it does a real material.
Go figure!

(edited out a part that could be considered a mild spoiler just in case)

I think you’d be relieved to know that (afaik) it’s Yotsuba trying to pronounce ジュリエッタ (Ena’s teddy bear’s name) and failing.

Oh I agree! But I now think that in her mistaken pronunciation she landed on a word she’d heard before, like a “Tatiana” “… Titanium” type of thing, where previously I thought she just originated it whole-cloth.

…why are we whispering?

It’s a secret.

Volume 15 is coming out in English… sometime this month. Google’s giving me the 27th of September as the release date, but the e-mail I just got from my local Kinokuniya implies that it’s more like this week (but doesn’t give a precise date).

Oh, don’t have it on pre-order yet!
.*orders!

Thanks for the reminder!
Where I ordered (Bookdepository) they claimed the 27th too.

Kobo of Japan gives the 28th for the English digital release on the Japanese digital store, which would be the 27th where I am in the US.

This is true, I’m feeling a bit sad after catching up. I don’t think another chapter was published since this volume came out.

I’m SUPER excited to trudge my way through this series while looking up everything on every page since I’m only at level 4 !!! It will be my first Manga ever, and reading them is one of the main goals I have for myself in learning the Japanese language. I wish to learn more about Manga in general too!

Okay! I have started よつばと!(my first manga ever) since finally getting it for a Christmas gift! A few regular very kind people have been helping me in my Study Log, and my goal is to read 1-2 pages a day at my current level of messy sloppy understanding :joy: I just spent THREE HOURS on pages 6 and 7, and my end result seems full of many many holes and misunderstandings. Anyway - I just wanted to provide a link to my post for any よつばと!readers who might feel up for spending the time to analyze my attempt. I had SO much fun reading this though!

The first chapter is much more difficult than the second.

That’s great. But, just checking, you have seen this thread, right?

Yup! Someone pointed out the vocab list to me yesterday and I had a MUCH easier time reading two pages. But my main problem was also pointed out in my study log that I wasn’t reading the bubbles right (since this is my first Manga ever!) Thank you for taking the time to make sure, though!

Hello, I’m just starting out reading Japanese manga. Could someone tell me where I can buy this series in ebook format. Most site I visited seem to be sold in physical book. I probably already come across the one who sell in soft already but just don’t understand xD. Please help

(Things might have changed since last time I checked around a year ago, so take the following comment with a grain of salt)

The one frustrating thing about the Yotsuba mangas is that they are NOT available (legally) in digital formats online. At least not in Japanese. For pretty much all other manga’s I can recommend bookwalker.jp, but sadly you won’t find Yotsuba in e-book format anywhere.

There are at least a few free sample chapters (8) that you can read here : よつばと! | 書籍 | 月刊コミック電撃大王公式サイト If you do feel the urge to read a bit, sadly it jumps from Chapter 2 straight to 9 so it’s not chronological at all.

Don’t forget about the 「⊕ もっと見る」 link in the middle, which expands to show another seven, for a total of 15 (same as available over on Comic Walker.)

As you mention, you only get the first two chapters before it skips ahead, but for first-time readers, two chapters should be enough to tide one over while waiting on shipping.
