Discussion guidelines

This thread is here to comment on your impressions of this week’s episodes and to ask any question you have regarding the vocabulary or the understanding of them

Spoiler Courtesy

Please follow these rules to avoid inadvertent ネタバレ. If you’re unsure whether something should have a spoiler tag, err on the side of using one.

  • Any potential spoiler for the current week’s watching need only be covered by a spoiler tag. Predictions and conjecture made by somebody who has not read ahead still falls into this category.
  • Any potential spoilers for external sources need to be covered by a spoiler tag and include a label (outside of the spoiler tag) of what might be spoiled. These include but are not limited to: other book club picks, other books, games, movies, anime, etc. I recommend also tagging the severity of the spoiler (for example, I may still look at minor spoilers for something that I don’t intend to read soon).
  • Any information from later in the book than the current week’s watching (including trigger warnings that haven’t yet manifested) needs to be hidden by spoiler tags and labeled as coming from later sections.

Posting Advice

  • When asking for help, please mention the number of the episode and time of the section, and check before posting that your question hasn’t already been asked. As the threads get longer, it becomes more convenient to use the Search function, which is located in the upper right corner of the forum. It is the magnifying glass which is near your profile picture! The best way to search is usually to type part of the sentence you are confused about, and select “in this topic”. This will show you all posts within the current thread which has that string of text.
  • Be sure to join the conversation! It’s fun, and it’s what keeps these clubs lively! There’s no such thing as a stupid question! We are all learning here, and if the question has crossed your mind, there’s a very good chance it has crossed somebody else’s also! Asking and answering questions is a great learning opportunity for everyone involved, so never hesitate to do so!

I just watched this week’s episodes. I think they were both pretty sweet stories that gave the characters a lot of personality, but they also gave a lot of setting for the village and it’s one of those anime that gives me a kind of weird pseudo-nostalgia for the Japanese countryside despite never have been there.

It’s doubly funny given I grew up in the Irish countryside, and hated it, lol. I think there’s something about the density of focal points they portray in it, while the village I grew up in was basically three roads and a bunch of flat grassy animal fields. Oh and I had terrible pollen allergies, so was not a fun place to be during the summer for me.

But maybe I’ll go walk down by the local river this weekend if it’s not too rainy.

Just finished episode 4!

I agree!! That’s been one of my favorite things about the show so far

Episode 4 Spoilers

I know!! :sob: that was so sad, poor girl learned the harsh reality of life. But then the ending was good :))
Admittedly all I could think of was the Bluey episode “camping” hahaha

This week was easier than the first for me! I don’t know if I’m just getting used to it and learning to listen better, or if it’s the some days you’re good at a language and other you aren’t thing haha

I’m thinking about going back through the episodes and adding some vocabulary to Anki. Recently I’ve been struggling between, do I need to just do a ton of listening and acquire the words 100% naturally, or should I make Anki flashcards when a new word comes up. It’s always hard to know what is most effective!
