Oh look at that the first volume is for free at the moment とんがり帽子のキッチン(モーニング・ツー)(マンガ(漫画))の電子書籍無料試し読みならBOOK☆WALKER
I’ll be waiting for your book report.
Book report after skimming the book and then reading chapter 1: nope, no plot, no story. Qifrey makes a food, it is shown and described how. Oru comes and they eat the food. The end.
No actually it’s all in code. You have to read the full series to understand. It all makes sense. Turns out that Tetia is the Ur-Tsubaari who has been the 黒幕 behind all the events of the story. It’s actually her wearing who sells the image book to infant Koco. She uses forbidden magic to remain young.
Screenshot this.
Well let me read more to find out. Chapter 2. Oru makes a food. He goes to bed. The girls and Qifrey wake up and they girls eat the food. They like it. There is one food left only for Oru and Qifrey. They share the food. The end.
I’m not sure I understand the appeal of this.
Eh, not buying it. You’re ignoring loads of subtext and clues that the left twin from the magic police is in league with the noble who always looks shady and they’re the real masterminds behind the Tsubaari.
I never understand the appeal of food manga and I’ve made my peace with that.
Starting volume 12 now ![]()
I voted to start a week earlier and I just realized that after all that I still forgot to read the omake of volume 11…
Yep same! ![]()
It’s not in any way relevant to the main plot, so you can read it at any time.
Out of interest, what’s the highest volume number people have read up to in a manga?
For me this manga is moving into second overall slot at 12th volume, overtaking Dragon Ball SD at 11 volumes.
First place is still Flying Witch where we’ve just started volume 14.
I was never an avid manga reader before studying Japanese. Mainly because when I read manga in French the volumes are expensive and I finish them in half an hour… Seems like a bad return over investment.
I did read a bunch of One Punch Man in Portuguese however, up to volume 5 or 6 I think. But then I started reading Portuguese too fast as well ![]()
So yeah Tongari is by far the most I’ve read of a single series.
The からかい上手の高木さん book club read all of its 20 volumes, which would be the highest one I’ve read in japanese.
Longest series I’ve finished is 放浪息子, which has 15 volumes. Longest overall is シャドーハウス at 18 (but volume 20 is coming out soon).
I actually actively avoid really long series. The above are already outliers compared to what I normally read. If you told me about the greatest manga of all time and then followed up with “it’s 50 volumes”, I’d never read it.
Yeah, I generally feel the same in English. In your native language you can bang through a volume in half an hour, but they are super expensive. In Japanese you can buy the super cheap, especially in digital sales, but the time investment to read them is much higher.
The Shonen Jump app is great value and lets you read up to 100 chapters per day for your monthly subscription. That’s where I read things like all 28 volumes of Dr. Stone, 21 volumes of Assassination Classroom, and 42 volumes of the original Dragon Ball. (I think One Piece is at an insane 109 volumes - haven’t tried tackling that one yet!)
I only read volume one of that one. Should have stuck with it!
Yeah, I feel like around 3-6 volumes is a real sweet spot when reading (slowly) in Japanese. But the draw of book clubs is strong - Frieren, Promised Neverland, and Twin Spica all really long series that have sucked me in recently - as well as Tongari.
Oh I didn’t know that, it’s impressive! I’ll have to look into that.
I think シャドウハウス at 19 volumes currently is the longest for me, but there are a few others that will be similar. Spy Family I suspect will go for more than 20, and 約束のネバランド is 20 total.
In Japanese? Tongari is my longest, too, at vol 13. The thing about these bookclubs is that I constantly start new stuff instead of finishing the series I started, so I got a lot of manga where I read only 1-2 volumes. For example, I started シャドウハウス two years ago, got stuck in vol 3 and now I keep telling myself that I’m gonna pick it back up and catch up to the offshoot bookclub any minute now.
If translated stuff counts, the longest I can think about is Inuyasha at 56 volumes.
64 consecutive volumes of JoJo, but if it’s alright to skip volumes, then 80 81 (as Natively reminds me that I read the first volume of Part 9 lol). I skipped most of Part 6 since it was stressing me out, but I’m going to see if it still stresses me out after I finish Part 7 (in a little over 7 more volumes). The next highest volume count of an ongoing series I’ve read seems to be 囀る鳥は飛ばたかない at 8 vols. There’s a 9th vol but at this point I’m expecting the mangaka to break all the fans’ hearts, so I don’t want to continue until it’s finished lol. For other series, I often start reading them with book clubs, but then I can’t get the following volumes for cheap (that’s the biggest problem with continuing Tongari for me). For other series that I do have in full, I prefer to read oneshots or shorter ongoing series while I work on completing JoJo.
