(Hadn’t I heard that) Papa hasn’t come back already?
No one want’s Fukumaru after all…
I’m just starting the reading for this week and the above sentence is throwing me for a bit of a loop. Mostly wondering about “んじゃないかって”, is it sort of explanatory tone + isn’t it + quotation?
I think the って is following up from 考えてしまう in the prior panel, to give us a look at the kind of thing Fukumaru is thinking about.
Here’show I broke it down:
「パパさんは帰ってこない」 “Papa is not returning home.”
「パパさんはもう帰ってこない」 “Papa is not returning home again.”
「パパさんはもう帰ってこないのだ」 “It is that Papa is not returning home again.”
「パパさんはもう帰ってこないんじゃないか」 “Isn’t it that Papa is not returning home again?”
「パパさんはもう帰ってこないんじゃないかって」 “(Fukumaru thought), ‘isn’t it that Papa is not returning home again’?”
