Kanji as a writing system has been in use in Japan for almost two thousand years, and was used in China for at least another thousand years before that, so it’s gone through a great many variations and revisions over that time. When you start to ask questions about why something is the way it is in Japanese, you tend to land right on a landmine of history and etymological technicalities, which the members of this forum are perfectly happy to expound upon for you.

There’s 電脳, but that’s the Chinese term rather than the ateji version.
