When did it start to become too much?

I had issues when I was levelling up faster by skipping vocabulary. Now, I don’t do lessons if there is anything on the critical list, and this helps quite a lot. I also do not skip ahead by omitting vocabulary, as that is what really helps cement the kanji in my head, both reading and meaning.

I had over 4000 reviews at one point :))) powered through them during the course of a week (this was before I reset)

the problem with that is, these items will return in HUGE chunks later, unless you burned them. each of these chunks will hit you in the face like a sledge hammer, and it won’t stop until they’re all dead and buried… which means, you’ll likely take quite a few hits.

it’s what drained my hitpoints last year ^^

Yeah, that’s one of the reasons I took a long time to get to 60. The best solution would be to do a small batch daily (but more than what’s coming up from the backlog) and be patient with it (unlike what I did  )

yeah… but if you had some gurus before you took your break, and fail them when you come back, they’ll all drop to apprentice, and then you have big stacks pummeling you daily.

must feel like this when you’re 60, and all that’s left to do is the same 50 leeches kicking you where it hurts every time.

No. We can only know other WaniKanian’s dashboard number in general excluding leeches unlike when we give our API to anyone else.

You can see mine here

https://www.wanikani.com/users/Oshin

And I can see yours here

https://www.wanikani.com/users/RedOliveBlue

But you can’t see my leeches and I can’t see your leeches unless we let you know or you let me know by giving api or screenshot. That’s why don’t share api to untrusted ones.

Aye, that’s the profile page rather than the dashboard.

So far so good. Only thing I’ve reduced really is my Anki because I have other stuff going on. I’d imagine it’ll become harder at around lvl 20 or so when my reviews come back to burn.

I don’t do the whole “lvl as fast as possible” though and I do reviews several times a day so… also may be why. I level every 8 to 10 days.

I forgot again to bind my English sentence to the correct noun/subject.

I’ll edit that post though not promise, since I always do it on mobile.

To clarify, I always want to refer to dashboard number. That’s what I have in my mind when I mention dashboard but I didn’t always put number at every sentence I wrote in that post. Oops.

And also, I imply that, my “fluid” noun/subject, numbers, can be accessed on dashboard by the WaniKanian user or the user/the account owner, or accessed on profile page by other WaniKanian users. Excluding leeches.

It became too much when I realized I couldn’t create enough application for what I was learning. Once the amount of kanji you know reaches a certain point it gets hard to expose yourself to enough natrual Japanese that will have the Kanji youre learning in it. (LIke the Kanji for pine… or the word larynx) At least for me the final point of learning with wanikani is when I hear it in NHK or see it in a book I’m reading. Somewhere in the tens it became a bit munch to find them all…

Just starting out and it feels pretty accelerated, I just try to keep a decent I give myself breathers once in a while.

If you’re not explicity talking about pine trees, you’re mostly going to see this in place names. Like the town of Matsumoto (松本). Or Matsumoto Jun (松本潤) from Arashi. And so forth.

“Larynx” is definitely one you’re not going to encounter on a regular basis, though. :stuck_out_tongue:

Level 21 now and it feels like I’m doing reviews just to stave the number off from going into the hundreds. Can’t imagine what it’s gonna be like when items up for “Burned” status start appearing in a few weeks…

You made amazing progress in a few months, you should be proud. I was level 11 when you were in December 2019. You’re now 21 and I’m just level 12.

I hit the wall around Christmas when things got busy and they still haven’t let up. Around then I also paid for lifetime which took some pressure off. Now I’m trying to keep my apprentice items around 100, because I figure that’s a sane number of items to expect to review every few days. Getting burnt out and quitting seems worse than easing off, and I’m not in any particular rush. 楽しもう勉強しますください!
