Discussion guidelines

This thread is here to comment on your impressions of this week’s episodes and to ask any question you have regarding the vocabulary or the understanding of them

Spoiler Courtesy

Please follow these rules to avoid inadvertent ネタバレ. If you’re unsure whether something should have a spoiler tag, err on the side of using one.

  • Any potential spoiler for the current week’s watching need only be covered by a spoiler tag. Predictions and conjecture made by somebody who has not read ahead still falls into this category.
  • Any potential spoilers for external sources need to be covered by a spoiler tag and include a label (outside of the spoiler tag) of what might be spoiled. These include but are not limited to: other book club picks, other books, games, movies, anime, etc. I recommend also tagging the severity of the spoiler (for example, I may still look at minor spoilers for something that I don’t intend to read soon).
  • Any information from later in the book than the current week’s watching (including trigger warnings that haven’t yet manifested) needs to be hidden by spoiler tags and labeled as coming from later sections.

Posting Advice

  • When asking for help, please mention the number of the episode and time of the section, and check before posting that your question hasn’t already been asked. As the threads get longer, it becomes more convenient to use the Search function, which is located in the upper right corner of the forum. It is the magnifying glass which is near your profile picture! The best way to search is usually to type part of the sentence you are confused about, and select “in this topic”. This will show you all posts within the current thread which has that string of text.
  • Be sure to join the conversation! It’s fun, and it’s what keeps these clubs lively! There’s no such thing as a stupid question! We are all learning here, and if the question has crossed your mind, there’s a very good chance it has crossed somebody else’s also! Asking and answering questions is a great learning opportunity for everyone involved, so never hesitate to do so!

Episode 5

!! The confession (for real!)! Miyano needs to do a lot of thinking about his sexuality before he has an answer I guess.

Sasaki is coming up with a good list of things he likes about Miyano. If only he was writing this down or texting it to him or something.

A black cat has joined the white cat at 14 minutes. Symbolism for Sasaki and Miyano I guess…but which is which? Is the show answering me by saying Sasaki is 三毛猫(みけねこ)?

Hirano is the best wingman. Sasaki should totally have Miyano’s number by now. At least Hirano is here to move the plot before I explode about miscommunications.

Episode 6

I feel a bit like I’m back in middle school where you can’t say you like someone without people being like “do you like them or do you like like them?” So 好き has the same type of implication where it can be romantic depending on context I guess?

I think Miyano is overthinking this whole “like” thing. Or his subconscious has already figured it out if he’s getting flashbacks to falling for people when Sasaki smiles.

So we get the talk part 1. At least Sasaki isn’t holding back with the physical affection anymore? It’s basically summer break. I hope Miyano figures himself out before graduation.

Catching up, watched episodes 3-6 today.

Episode 6

I’ve noticed that when used for romantic attraction people often use Xのことが好き.

Like:

先輩が好き = “I like senpai” (because he’s fun to be around, or a nice person, or whatever)

先輩のことが好き = “I like senpai” (in a romantic sense)

I actually found the train announcements the hardest bit to follow here, though I think a lot of that is the audio mixing

Finally working on catching up. I like all the sparkly animation effects, and I found the rain in episode six especially fun.

And I was a goober again because I just now figured out how to fix out of sync subtitles :upside_down_face:
