WaniKani Mobile - [End of Support]

tekchic said... I've rolled back to using the 1.8.0RC version because I'm not seeing the Ignore button again on the 1.8.2 release from Play Store.

Environment: Galaxy S3 rooted, d2att CM10.2, Swype keyboard, Japanese fonts (from that font app).

I am using the custom IME,  I have all the scripts checked on the settings page, but for some reason on 1.8.2 the ignore button never appears when I miss an item -- here's a link to a screenshot: http://i.imgur.com/ejtR8Cl.png I have no problem with it on 1.8.0 and I *think* 1.8.1 where maybe it was on a menu item was fine too.
You know, I received a lot of reports saying that the menu item did not show up..  therefore, starting from 1.8.2, I moved it into the GUI. It is the "X" button on the left of the answer box (you can see it also in the snapshot you sent).
I do believe there's something markedly wrong in the usability of this feature, since people can't find it anywhere I place it....

The only other issue that I'm seeing, and I've seen this since I started using the custom IME a few versions back is that to get the small っI've always typed "xtu" but with the past few versions and the custom IME, I get an "x" and the big つ. For me to get the small っ, I have to type "ttu" and then it does this: っつ and then I backspace to get rid of つ. A little awkward, so I don't know if it's Swype causing this or what. I don't actually "Swype" when I'm in WK, I just tap the keys. Is there a way to get the small っ instead of typing the "xtu" to get it that I don't know about? :) The other shortcuts like "sho", "jyu" etc seem to be just fine, it's just "xtu" that goes weird on me.
I've added those combinations (xtsu, xtu, ltsu, ltu) in release 1.8.2.

Here's a screenshot for the baby っ quirk: http://i.imgur.com/Kx4zXoc.png

Thanks again for creating such an awesome app. BTW, do you have a Donate button or anything somewhere? You've done some fantastic work on this app!
Don't worry, asking for money would make me feel bad. I really like this community and it would be like making friends pay ;)

HA I feel silly now that I see it in plain view, right on my screenshot. It’s funny what users get used to (like originally it was as a menu button action, then in the black header bar… didn’t even catch my eyeballs on the left!) Maybe blacking the “X” might catch it a little more? Gray on gray can denote “disabled”… although ignore script isn’t something that should be abused, so I can see why it could be gray on gray, too.

Thanks for adding those combos… you’re the best!

Today @alucardeck has released a new version of the WK Reorder script, that supports a single vs. batch reordering algorithm (see his thread for more info). Seems an interesting feature, so I promptly stol^H^H^H^Hembedded this new version of the script into the app:

Good idea. Actually, I took that image from the collection of Android standard menu icons: that's why it looks so strange . And yes, to be honest, also I still open the menu sometimes looking for that button :)

I love this app, but I just had to force close it. It was hogging all my bandwidth for some reason, constantly sending and receiving data. Couldn’t even load Google til I force closed.

 This version is working great.

Most likely the item browser filter was set to "all" (instead of, for instance, "by level"). That's a LOT of stuff and needs to be refreshed often. You may also want to check the meters (the menu item with the "eye" icon): the default refresh timeout (5 minutes) generates a lot of traffic.

Great. Today I've integrated the Lesson Order script as well: I'm almost sure it works, but I want to test it well before releasing it. In particular I want to understand the issue about the first item .. at the moment the internal browser has no refresh command

EDIT: WK Lessons Order seems to work well (at least for me), so I celebrate my name-day with a new release:

If I don't discover any major bugs, I'll publish it in a couple of days

I forgot about this thread. The latest APK doesn’t work for me.

Strange… I published the same code on Google play almost one week ago and received no complaints. Could you try downloading it from there? The lessons roder script is really useful.

You mean you pushed it as a regular update already? Then I’ve used that version for a while now.

Precisely that. I don't know why, but it looks like some APKs simply can't be installed outside of Google Play.

More or less related to this: I've just published 1.9.0 (main feature: vacation mode). Since it alters the DB schema, if something goes wrong when installing it, please do NOT downgrade it or you may not be able to upgrade it again (well, really, if you tell me, we can recover from this situation someway)

Thanks so much for creating the app!  However, I seem to be stuck on the settings screen when I open it.  What am I doing wrong?

Hi @sakuratenshi4, you should copy the API key into the "User API Key" setting.
You can take it e.g. from http://www.wanikani.com/account (Public API Key field).
Let me know if works!

I’ve encountered two bugs during my last lessons/reviews. But I’m not sure whether this a bug of the app or WaniKani.

1.) During lessons it sometimes happenes that when I’ve reached the quiz the overlay is a bit broken:
http://i43.tinypic.com/2v8n6me.png

2.) I accidently entered the kun’yomi reading of a kanji and WaniKani notified me that it wants the on’yomi reading. Then I entered a wrong on’yomi but wasn’t able to check the correct solution because the old notification of the wrong reading was blocking the show-solution-button:

Definitely a problem in the app. Usually, however, the screen returns "normal" after a few seconds, unless some network problem prevents the following page to appear. This is very difficult to fix because I have to put some ad-hoc logic on triggers that works well everywhere else. It is difficult to test too, because I don't have many occasions to can reach that page.
Since the effect is just "ugly" and the logic works well on the other pages I'm reluctant to touch it..

Looks like a WaniKani problem to me, since I leave those info balloons alone. I'll try to reproduce that in the stock browser, however, just to make sure it's not my fault.

Jup, most times it turns normal after a 1-2 seconds. But sometimes it won't fix itself. Happened to me 2 or 3 times while doing ca. 50 lessons.

Okay :)

I believe I have fixed this with the new experimental APK:
                 https://www.dropbox.com/s/26w98zildupj4m2/WaniKaniMobile-1.10.0rc0.apk
The big new feature of this release, however, is that JP fonts can be fully customized.
This has two important benefits: it should solve once for all the unihan problem for all the devices (including mine :).
In addition, since you can download any number of fonts, it can teach you to read kanji with very different fonts: they will be rotated during reviews.

Okay :)
I tried both with the stock browser and the app. The behaviour has always been the same (though I could not reproduce the problem you reported). I believe this is a race condition that is not specific of the app...

It works but when I press download next to the “Droid sans japanese” font I get an error.
Also, how does the “import from file” work? What does the font path look like? Can you give an example pointing to the folder “storage” or something similar please? Can I type anything for “Font name” or is it the same as the file name?

Which font does Wanikani use anyway?

Satoshi said... It works but when I press download next to the "Droid sans japanese" font I get an error.
Hmm.. Is it the usual "WKM has stopped working?" I wish I could have the stack trace: on my phone and the emulator, the browser opens correctly.
Does the "Download from web"  feature work?  You can enter any web address (e.g. http://ipafont.ipa.go.jp/) and download the font file in the usual way.

The name does not matter as long it is unique: it is only used to label it in the list. The filename is a Unix path, like the one specified in "Settings/Filename" to export the DB. You can for instance copy the .ttf (or a .zip containing ttf fonts) into the root of the SD card and import it as "/mnt/sdcard/file.ttf".

There's a number of possibilities: the first in the list is "Hiragino Kaku Gothic Pro".

It's the monk looking at the turtle error page.

Haven't tried the web download yet.

Ok, thanks I'll go look for that one.

EDIT: nvm on Windows it's Meiryo
