WaniKani Content Additions and Movements: Wednesday, March 18, 2026 - Wednesday, April 15, 2026

Yeah, it kinda sucks to be done and still have new stuff trickle in…but I’m also happy with it because this is how I like to learn kanji and there’s still many more to learn!

Nice additions! Can anyone show which kanjis are left from joyo kanji list? I finished Wanikani last year and don’t have a subscription now…

Wkstats shows this information really well. Scroll down to the section at the bottom labeled “Kanji Not On Wanikani.”

Please stop adding new radicals. It’s highly disruptive. The old radical worked perfectly.

Alternatively, version your database and let me stay on the old version. I do not appreciate your database updates, in general.

just to reiterate, thanks very much for rib cage and for all the new radicals that are a bit more sensitive to the nuances of the character’s orthography!

Not a pressing matter at all- but it seems the new rib cage radical shows up in reviews in a different font? I don’t think it’s a script issue on my end either considering no other items- radical, kanji, or vocab- displays like this.

Worth sharing here, though, I think

Missing Joyo List is:

And for fun… here’s what I recognized immediately from my mostly gaming / anime background.

Of these, I’ve seen the following quite often and was able to pick out from above very quickly…

彙「語彙」、釜、瓦、顎、曖昧、蓋、侯爵 (and other ranks)、2桁、麓、嫉妬、薪、籠「鳥籠」、稽 「稽古」、繕 「繕う」、畏 「畏まる」

And a few others I’ve seen… but not often

窟 & 溺 in a video game. 壱&On a clock. 繭 in a video game. 楼 as tower naming suffice in a video game. 咽 in song lyrics.

And a few others I’m surprised aren’t in the list…

溢れる、歪・歪む

Edit: oh! and I just saw 怨「怨恨」 as I was closing the window. I just missed this one on a review last week! And months later, I can say I’ve seen 怨霊 a few times too in a mystery book.

I’ve encountered 頬 a recognizable handful of times now, too, enough to where I’d place it decently high on a priority heirarchy if it were up to me. Thanks for this list

Great one! I see 頬っぺた in kana, especially when they’re flushed, quite a bit I suppose! But more notably, it’s in Blue Box’s ending theme for season 2 (Contrast) which is a personal favorite of mine!

Might as well add 醒 to the list as it’s basically just 覚 i.e. 目覚め = 目醒め but with a different Kunyomi which is used in the word 覚醒 「かくせい」, a combo of the two and apparently in this new to me Yojijukugo - 半睡()半醒 / 半醒()半睡 … since you’re half-asleep, you can apparently type it either way!

Edit: Literally just saw 覚醒 in the game Pragmata. Glad I learned it!

i think this is similar to the situation for things like “elf”? both components only show up in some way smaller than full-size

Sorry to revive an old post.

I just encountered 行方 for the first time and noticed that the page for doesn’t show くえ as one of the readings.

I believe this is intended: exceptional readings are often not reflected on the kanji pages. for example, i just unlocked 団扇うちわ, (which by rights should be spelled 内羽 :triumph:), and the cards for だん and せん also do not have うち and わ as readings.

I suspect くえ is a true exception that isn’t repeated in other readings of 方.

Interesting. I guess I just assumed that if it was a reading used on an item in WK that it would show up on the Kanji page.
