Could you please add “Little” and “Large” to the Kanji for “Small” and “Big”. I find it impossible to differentiate between the two at this point, hence my repeated irritation when I see the red screen after typing in the wrong synonym.

You can add User Synonyms to the individual items 
Either on the kanji / vocab pages, or during your reviews by clicking to see more, on the left hand side.

Ok, so the Kanji for “small”/“big” accept “little”/'large", but the Radicals don’t, hence my confusion since it sometimes works and sometimes doesn’t.
The radicals always only have one meaning.I guess it’s to link the word to the mnemonics more strongly.
