[Request] I REALLY need this

I've never noticed this. I'll try to pay more attention to the answer bar then, maybe it'll help.

Also, I've read the FAQ before starting to use WaniKani and I remember that part. Although, to be honest, I think it's in their interest to not giving you that option. The more mistakes you make, the longer your subscription is likely going to last.
If the WaniKani team and the community give you the option to use the Override script (which is WAY more dangerous of what I'm asking), then I think that an user should also have the option to re-type an answer if he wrote the reading instead of the meaning.
they want you to learn, not make mistakes. also, a couple mistakes doesn't really extend your time on wanikani by much, not enough to really matter to them. also, the first override userscript i linked doesn't mark the answer as correct. it tells wk that you haven't answered it yet and sends it back into the review queue for you to try again.
I've just installed it and I'll try it during the next batch of reviews. Thank you!

I want some of whatever you smoked that day.
 Just work overload :D

It’s much easier to make the mistake of typing the wrong reading. If you can’t take the time to see that what you’re writing is or isn’t turning into hiragana then you are indeed being hasty. Part of the process is patience and you clearly don’t have it.

niu said...And I totally agree! Typos are actual mistakes and I don't complain about them. If you're chatting with somebody, writing an email or even a book, typos can't be justified.
But when you're reading something you can't confuse the meaning with the reading, therefore I don't think it's fair to be "punished" for that kind of mistakes. That's all I'm trying to say.
Nah don't worry, I definitely hear what you're saying. I just think the available override scripts are overkill and easily misused :P I personally honestly don't think a little script like what you're requesting is bad. Even if your particular request never gets fulfilled, good luck with your wk-ing journey >;3

As others have said, you can use an ignore script, but be really careful about not misusing it. When in doubt, leave your mistake as is. It took me really fucking myself over to finally start only using the ignore script for honest-to-goodness accidents.  Sometimes I’ll still catch myself cheating and hitting that “ignore”, so i’ll make sure to input the wrong answer again the next time it comes around. Seriously.

niu said...Precisely. Therefore it should be ok with you if they get rid of that kun/on warning, right? Because every user should pay more attention to the reading that they have learned during lessons, so it's ok if they fail typing the wrong one,
If you really believe this, then you can blame me for this change. When I joined WaniKani, you would be marked wrong for entering a reading other than the one learned during lessons. I lobbied long and hard for the review to not mark wrong any valid reading for the kanji. I personally think that this is a massive improvement to the site, but if you disagree, I'm sorry.

I don't know what to tell you ... I rarely make typos during reviews but it's very easy for me to make the other mistake. Maybe I should stop reviewing after work, I dunno.

Of course I don't really believe that, I was being sarcastic :/
Thanks for that change. The point of this thread is that right because I support these kind of options, I believe that they should be extended to something as stupid as mixing up meaning and reading.

I don't get why so many people have a problem with that. The override script is WAY more dangerous in my opinion, but everybody seems to be ok with it

Look, I’ve been kind of a dick on this thread and a lot of people have offered a solution while I’ve been far from productive. That being said I really think it comes down to you. I’ve done the same thing you’re talking about a few times and it took those few times for me to wise up and keep that in mind. I just think for you to say you NEED this is a stretch. I think you’ll be fine in time.

Yeah they probably are being misused. And the thing is that I would only use them in this particular case. If I type a wrong answer because I didn't know it, I'd let it wrong.
I even disable Rikaikun when I do reviews!

a lot of people aren’t ok with the override script though and choose to not use it because they think its too dangerous. in my list of api and third party apps, there’s a couple items that have usage warnings on them, and most of them are ignore scripts and reorder scripts. we realize they’re really dangerous but they can be useful if you’re responsible about using them.
i think the main issue with implementing something like that is the work that would have to go into it. the IME is pretty flexible, so they would have to account for every typing variation and probably several more. eg, there’s sooo many ways to type small kana, depending on the kana. maybe sometime in the future?

Wow you're on the next level :D Isn't that dangerous for the memory?

uh disabling rikai for reviews should be a given, right? don't tell me there's people who don't do this. i will be horrified.

Maybe you're right, it just takes some more time to get used and focus on what's been requested BEFORE even thinking about the word/kanji itself.
I was only afraid that I would have kept doing it forever, since I still haven't fixed at almost level 4. I'll work a bit more on it.

Right on. Apologies for giving you a hard time.

I mean, you don't really have to disable it, you just have to keep the mouse away from the words ... but I don't trust myself :P

It definitely took me a few levels to just get the hang of things ;D : http://i.imgur.com/QizVT4r.png

My first few couple levels really were an all over jumble of mistakes and fun times ;)

How the hell you jump straight into level three from one?

@Niwozawa
i think if you don’t start paying for the subscription right after finishing level 2, it kind of gets confused and combines time spent on level 2 with time spent on level 1.

Nah I paid right after finishing leveling 2 so might not be that.
