- Finished Shimizu-san 4 (technically i have the ‘special edition’ extra story left but it’s only 4000 文字 and also I don’t particularly want to read it). Dropping the series I think.
- I intended to read more manga but I peaked at 薬屋２ to see if I had improved and… while I think I have, the vocab required is still quite dense. But I found myself enjoying what I was reading more, so it’s all good. This will probably take me most of August though if not longer. Ah well.

Today ended up being another garden day, this time spending several hours out there with my spouse and puppy. We brought a big ol’ bone for Bruno to chew on, so he was content to hang out while we got some stuff done. Lovely afternoon, save the sunburn I accidentally got on my back. Overcast day tricked me into a false sense of security…
Anyway, read the last two chapters of 恋より青く２ this evening! It ended on a really subtle note, which was actually nice in the end, but it’s starting to get into a high school friend group drama and I’m ready for a little break from that before I pick this back up.
Perhaps not the most exciting readathon entry, @Kami_Neko, but I did push past my normal stopping point to read another chapter and finish the book!!!
These are all so interesting with the use of these cold color palettes. Like the one with the deer and the really dark blue tree from yesterday. What uncanny feelings!

In the book these two are next to each other as they are similar in subject and colour, but I can’t seem to find a picture of the Izusan one in the pinky-orange colours. It doesn’t mention anywhere in the book if he did multiple time-of-day scenes for the same print so I wonder if this was the printer’s decision - perhaps a later reprint or such.

The book mentions that some of his works were on exhibit at a nautical museum and someone there offered him a trip on a fishing boat (I presume it is this one pictured) which is were the previous two prints were based off of.

Read half of the final chapter - this is pretty fun, at this part he drops a cipher into the text so you can try and work it out before the character does.
Yeh he has an interesting use of colours, I love how he sets the mood in his works.

Read another chapter over breakfast. Love it when I see a new word but the reading and meaning are both obvious. In this case, Braille, which is 点字. (That word is a very minor spoiler, in case you are planning to read this story).

Today I read 14 pages of ふらいんぐうぃっち 2 to bring me half way through the second chapter. This chapter is set during a Cherry Blossom Festival, something I’d love to experience myself one day! And from this chapter I learned the Japanese phrase ‘花より団子 (はなよりだんご)’ meaning someone who prefers eating dumplings over looking at the flowers, which I understand to mean someone who values practical things over aesthetics.
Hm I am not entirely sure about my reading of the past days but I’ll still try

My small book order arrived. It was the first time I ordered from Verasia, an EU-based shop for Japanese books. I was pretty happy with how fast the package was delivered and it was well packaged, too. In terms of price? Well.. For small orders, I think it’s good 
(would be a lie to say it’s not due to the new customs regulations for non EU packages that are active since this month 
which hit small orders the most)
Anyway, among my books was the latest One Piece volume and I just skimmed through it and read some of the new stuff compared to the weekly chapter releases, i.e. the pages before each chapter starts. Gonna read the whole volume at some point next week! I think this is gonna be a great volume - the longest one to date with 13 chapters! Most volumes have 10 or 11 chapters. And I’m so glad they chose to do 13 this time because it ends with an absolute banger
Also, this was the first manga volume that I saw a trailer of, and.. it’s pretty good?!

Sunday, July 26: For our mini readathon, I wasn’t sure what I was gonna read. Decided to tackle something from my backlog and finished the last third of 推し、燃ゆ which I had started in April, I believe. It just got pushed to the back when my Apothecary Diaries books arrived, so I am glad I finally gave it some attention again. Now I can add some new stuff to the Reading pile without shame!
Ah, and I guess I have been playing some more Zelda and Xenoblade today, too

Well, at least I made the effort of sitting down in the morning to read. Just 40min. Not quite the 2-3h I was hoping for.
Today: finished Vol. 7 of よつばと!
Best new word: ぎゅっと.
It always feels great to put a volume back on the shelf and pull out a new one. For the coming days I’ll likely free-read Vol. 8 before rereading with vocabulary lookups.
