Hey all! A new update just dropped bringing quite a bunch of new things, such as sharing and customizing your profile images & pages, social account (Google/Discord) logins/linking, and more!

Here are a few examples of how you can customize it:

And an example of what sharing your account will look like (don’t judge me  ):

And in case you missed it, I also talk about some of the bigger upcoming features we’re currently working on! It’s quite a read, so be sure to sit down with a nice cup of coffee first.

P.s. Please do share your custom profile (images) in this thread! I’d love to see them

New!
Grammar Deck N5-N1: Translation Deck

This is a reverse production deck to practice grammar output. This is the same content as the comprehension deck and can be worked in tandem.

The front card works on a hint system of the grammar point (to get rid of synonym hell :fire:) with the idea of forcing sentence memorization for language output using grammar points. The text entry can worked several ways: kana only via english keyboard (regular), kanji based sentence or consideration.

JLPT Sensei link, BunPro link (if matched) is in toolbar. In addition there is BunPo Check link as a way to check production if not match to entry against their AI model. If you want synonyms, you can add your own synonyms or offer a proposed addition to the community deck.

All audio entries are work in progress, will update accordingly.

Get deck here

Note: This is a challenging deck, I suggestions are to go slow to take the time to learn the translation using the hint system and pair w/ comprehension deck for reinforcement. Also make use of the synonym add-on features and if you have suggestions/question regarding alternative translations, please post here or propose changes within the card.

Description

Grammar Sentence Production deck is sibling deck to Recognition + Listening Deck.

How to Use this Deck:

Deck templates are separated by N Level (sentences) or grammar point alone (vocab) which is also tagged by N level. Number tags are aligned with JLPT sensei’s grammar number listed on their website as well as sentence example #

There is also a BunPro hyperlink for grammar info reference (if entry matched to BP’s list) and can be used alongside as the recognition deck to compliment productive entry practice.

Production Sentence / Translation can use either kana only (english keyboard) or Japanese. Suggest alternatives and will check them & add them for deck updates via Actions → Propose Change

Also Bunpo Check Link for sentence checks if grammar correct but not an acceptable entry.
*ā€œAI-powered Japanese comprehensionā€.
ę–‡ę³•ćƒ¼CHECK lets you check your Japanese sentences for grammatical errors using an AI model.

Just type in the box and hit ćƒć‚§ćƒƒć‚Æ. You’ll get a result in a few seconds. Any errors will be underlined: you can click on them to see the suggested edit. If there were no errors, you’ll see a tick in the corner. Really short sentences won’t be checked.

I keep seeing people bring up MM in other threads
and as much as I think it’s fair to give critique about WK, (as well as say ā€˜oh this service has this feature/I find it useful’) I worry about people saying ā€˜WK is for losers, MM is where it’s at :sunglasses:’ a bit too much and upsetting mods/WK old timers
I’d hate to cause resentment when, at least for now, these two services can exist together, not entirely as competition

I may be overly anxious about this
I guess I just feel we shouldn’t be so gung-ho when MM is a new/in beta service that has gotten a lot of it’s newest members through this forum (unlike anki which was created before WK and is probably going to survive the heat death of the universe)

Agreed. It’s fine to mention a new service in a dedicated thread, but spamming about it everywhere is just tacky. If one hates WK so much they should by all means use something else, but staying on WK’s forum only to moan about it is rude.

idk I think if you have negative feedback to give, the forum is the right place for it

but naming another (especially newer) service as a ā€˜I don’t need you bc I have this!’
kinda makes me think like…
People are going to start seeing that platform badly

I’m trying to find the post, did someone actually say this? From the Discord to the threads, I never caught this extreme sentiment…in fact, I usually see paying WK users on both platforms that discuss differences from what I’ve seen.

Some of feature requests I see here are beyond what the platform was intended for; it would almost have to get rebuilt for those asks. Coincidently, MM is getting built with those requests in mind. And to your point, if WK doesn’t intend on making those features then there is room for all these platforms, a user base can just gravitate to what motivates them best (which is highly variable from what I’ve seen, to each their own).

But I don’t see the harm in recommending other services that help learners find what they are looking for. As an OG legacy service, WK funnels in a lot of new learners as a first stop…probably an advantage they will always have no matter who complaints about what, their future is probably just fine no matter how many scripts break. And clearly there will always be developers to contribute to 3rd party upkeep.

MM is still extremely small and pretty vulnerable even though the features in beta already out perform alot of what is out there…but if it doesn’t get supported, it may not last despite all the highly active efforts put forth and this largely due to awareness that the platform even exists. Certainly the developer-customer relations have been night/day, pretty hard to ignore so can’t be surprise if talked about. The MM roadmap has been really solid thus far…and that something that alot of services have had a hard time adhering to (of just having a road map in general).
