The thought has come to my head that I wish I can choose to learn kanji/vocab without level restrictions, while keeping in mind price tag of 300$. More I use Japanese materials such as games, manga, video blogs, less I pay attention to mnemonics and more to actual memory connections between words and real life occurrences. But without typing in WaniKani it is much harder to memorize still. I see forced reviews very useful, and especially typing an answer. Anki lacks proper typing mechanics and for my opinion have poor and unclear timings configuration, while I often forget rarely used burned items from WaniKani. For example, human/day counters are so rarely used that I can’t remember any readings of them (except first 1-2) like 六日.
I don’t think it’s clear what you’re suggesting. Maybe you could make a specific example of what you’d like to be able to do?
Interesting assertion.
Human counters you just need to learn ひとり ふたり よにん, otherwise it’s just #にん.
Day counters are pretty common, as they’re used whenever you talk about days. Like “in 3 days”, “2 days ago”, etc. Plus they’re very similar to the general つ counter.
ひとつ ー ついたち (exception)
ふたつ ー ふつか
みっつ ー みっか
よっつ ー よっか
いつつ ー いつか
むっつ ー むいか
ななつ ー なのか
やっつ ー ようか
ここのつ ー ここのか
とお ー とおか
To be able to learn any kanji/vocab, regardless of it’s level. Level only exist in WaniKani, not in real world Japanese. For example, in Bunpro I can learn any grammar point, without the need to learn everything before in order.
So you imagine you’d be able to pick any item in the lesson picker, for example?
A problem with it is that many items are sequential: you learn kanji X on level N, and in level N+1 it becomes a radical, that unlocks kanji Y, and that in turn unlocks vocab Y1, Y2, or XY1, XY2.
So being able to pick any item breaks the wk system.
Dependency graph can be represented by better way than simple ordered queue, for example this 51 level kanji 又 can be learned at level 2.
But you pay the money for the structure and mnemonics
Otherwise just throw kanji into an anki deck
