D: That is so much better written than my intro
I legit never saw that
Now I kinda wish that person would write a piece of what I attempted and failed so miserably at
a truly complete very practical guide
you know, not a “learn a lot” or “read this” but literally step by step with math and all
I bet this person would do an amazing job
are we using the same rosetta stone? they might have overhauled it yet again
there is no writing for me at all, the app (using android) uses voice&pictures exclusively
I will check busuu out, but tampermonkey is part of the guide
perhaps I will just rewrite the article every other month with the feedback I get here putting everybody’s feelings and experiences into it - surely then it will become a fine piece
I would love to read more on the various reasons, use cases, experiences and so on! Sounds like there is much to gain and learn, way more than we had thought
Well for one thing, I love calligraphy so I’ve been taking Japanese calligraphy classes. The side benefit of that is that I’ve also been able to more easily start reading calligraphic writing which you will encounter quite often on signs, etc.
I also just like handwriting things even in English. Not everything that can be written is a text message, an email or a word document.
I suppose we have gone full circle with the jap part as in back to a short
I will make sure to never say it again, perhaps add some more tables and rework the old ones
In just my one year in Japan in non-Tokyo/Osaka, there were clear advantages that I missed from not being able to speak Japanese in 1) work 2) dating 3) social activities 4) intra-country travel, especially in rural areas. I can keep going on, but these are all very significant life items.
You can live with English-only, sure, but it is very, very, restrictive.
Well I don’t mean to be cruel, writing can be fun and you wouldn’t improve if you don’t try, make mistakes and learn from them. So don’t look at this like its a failure. It just seems like a hell of a subject.
I went quite a bit clickbaity’ there. Who wants to read “an attempt at a japanese learning guide for the mentally challenged”? I see your point though
perhaps I should hold a few surveys 1-2 version later and attempt to ‘rank’ them
I think it was a subconscious way of saying children stories are hella boring haha
I tried to not write fluffy
like how I would change “It might be better to make the suggestion that it’s okay to slow down” into “slow down” but that does remove context too hmm
thank you for the long feedback though! definitely needs a lot more polishing
I never wrote the article, but if the feedback I got was “don’t bother” I’d find it very painful. Is there any constructive criticism you can offer the OP? He seems very receptive to it.
it was an attempt to write differently, I suppose the other article had the same thing in mind though he/she did a way better job
way too many people quit learning and ‘waste’ time if there is no ulterior motive, sad
well I talked to classes upon classes of people, maybe 100 overall and the general mentality was this
perhaps herd effect
Plus all sorts of things like handwritten thank you cards, signs, etc. This is why I’ve never understood the idea that anyone can claim that handwriting is useless. I regularly do stuff with a local Japanese society in town and on more than a couple of occasions I’ve have passed on handwritten thank you cards, etc. in Japanese to others in the group. It’s just more personal than an email or something typed. Just goes to show you’ve put more than a bare minimum level of effort.
