When learning this new jukugo this morning, I was a bit puzzled.
The explanation says that it uses the kun’yomi for both kanjis, which is こ for 子 and うし for 牛. Thus, the reading for 子牛 is こうし. Pretty straightforward.
My question is: am I supposed to read it as kôshi
or koushi
? Both make sense to me, because こう is kô
, but since this is two readings put side-by-side, maybe this rule doesn’t apply here.
