Yes—of course! I’m a self-learner and I’m around N2 level now. I have taken some short intensive classes in Tokyo and I do have a formal lesson once a week, but the majority of my progress I would say is from my own drive and study habits. One formal lesson a week isn’t going to get you any further than self-study. It’s all about building your own study schedule and making good habits! (Also, I don’t live in Japan so I’m not exposed to the language on a daily basis)
