Sundrop’s Spring Readathon 2025
I finished an additional 30 minutes of reading this eve, and with that, I’m calling a close for my readathon today. For the next equinox, hopefully I will have more time in the day to read for longer (it was busy!). It was fun reading everyone’s comments and felt like a fun group experience. Thank you @taiyousea for hosting such a great event!
Results:
- Read for the longest I have ever read Japanese (2+ hours). Around 3 hours total, but I totally forgot to set a timer. Whoops, will remember next time.
- Make serious progress, maybe even finish my first Japanese novel. I’m about 30 pages from the end, so I’d say this was significant progress.

Wow, this novel is taking a turn, and it is really starting to pull at my heartstrings. I’ve come to the end of a big arc and have a bit more until the conclusion. I wonder how this is going to end, and I wonder if it will be one of those stories with an open ending that I’ve often encountered in Japanese writing and film? I seriously want the end of this book to be happy, but I already know what’s coming. At the most I think it will be bittersweet. I expect I might cry.
Excited for the next equinox!

My achievable goal of 100 pages from children’s novels was… achieved! Sadly, my stretch goal of reading the entire Goosebumps book was not realized, but, you never know… maybe in the summer readathon! 
I also surpassed my previous time record of 4 hours and managed to read for 5 hours!

My record readathon time is just over 5 hours, how the heck was I functional for 8 and a half?? I had such an enjoyable time reading, too, I mentioned at 2.5 hours that it felt like nothing and I was almost definitely going to beat my 5 hour record. But by that much…!
I think starting easy was a good confidence booster – as opposed to my previous tactic of starting difficult “while I had energy” – and I got lucky that the unknown (to me) volume I chose first ended up being extremely interesting. I had such a fun time reading through everything that followed, and was even able to push myself pretty easily to finish the one I didn’t like. Sleep definitely killed my flow, though 
Once morning came around and I still had 8 or so hours on the clock, I was too tired to push myself as much as I had the previous night. Though an extra kick or two forced me to read right up until the finish line 
In all, I had a great time and smashed my expectations. I really enjoy reading everyone’s updates and, whether you beat your goals or not, I love seeing how much you accomplish and how some of you already began formulating plans for next time haha 
I’m always so grateful for everyone who joins these, it’s a true honor being able to read alongside you all!! 
I’ll keep the Results post open for another day or so while final participants finish… we’re so close to beating our Winter time goal

I don’t have great news this time around. I had an ibs trigger and was sick the entire day - it was brutal.
A bit sad, but at least I’m almost caught up with all my book clubs, so that’s something to be happy about.
As for my totals, I finished reading 60 novel pages in 3 hours and 20 minutes. (cries)
Going to give myself a compensation personal readathon after I get better.

Well, sadly only made 2/4 goals, but I’m not too upset as I had a pretty draining day and still read far more than I normally am capable of.
5.5 hours total, finished よつばと6 (83 pages), managed two chapters (52 pages) of 魔女の宅急便, and the first 50 pages of さよなら絵梨.
A little upset that I missed my time goal by half an hour but I just don’t have it in me to see it through. Maybe next time!! Was so fun reading with everyone

Met all my original goals. I’m still a slow reader which is aggravating but at least I’m consistent and moving even at my snail pace. Totals are for Manga in pages and char for shosetu (not double counting).
Wanted to beat the winter readathon time (which I did past was 6.75 hrs). The only manga I didn’t pick up this time was the fudansi but it’s something I’m already reading anyway so wasn’t really a hard and fast goal. Today the biggest goal was with the time left could I finish chap 4 of 僕が夫に出会うまで, was looking at the characters and knowing my reading speed thought I could just pull it off if kept my head down. @taiyousea was there reading along pushing me. 
Feel like having done this 2x now, right about 6-7 hours is the “natural” limit of motivation for me. After that it gets harder to want to push though. Overall pleased with how much I read and the time, but really bummed I’m sill so slow. Summer solstice will set reachable goals again and probably won’t be time based beyond read for at least 7 hours. Have a lot of shosetu to push through if i want those bingo squares. Need to up those numbers! (and finish 5 more vol of GLT)

Squeezed in one last bit before the time limit, 30 minutes of 13 sentinels to do one more prologue. Playing on switch so don’t have an accurate character count but with ~225 lines with average six chars per line, I’m counting it as 1.25k characters.

So for a results post, I don’t have the variety some other people have, since I focused most of my time on one novel, but I’m glad with the progress. My only goal was to finish Honzuki part 1, so getting a volume of SPYxFAMILY finished and some progress on 13 sentinels is a pretty good bonus.

So, final results. I read from 2 books- JoJo vol 7 and STEEL BALL RUN vol 12. I didn’t read Stone Ocean like I had hoped to. I’m glad I could work on getting caught up for the JoJo club. Although it feels a bit against the spirit of the challenge since it wasn’t reading like I normally would. I only read SBR normally. In total I read 101 pages over about 520 minutes. I don’t have a character count, but I do suspect it would be above average for manga or for the rest of JoJo due to the inclusion of a rather text heavy infographic page.
I hope to do better on the next challenge. It seems like the summer solstice will fall on a Saturday next time so hopefully I can fully commit that day and maybe put off all the chores I had to do during this challenge lol

On my end, Friday went totally pear shaped and I only managed the 30 minutes in the morning 
but I bravely added it to the tally for posterity, currently gunning for the least read prize

I was busy enough on the Saturday that I might have read more if I had just done the actual day of the equinox. It was a good kind of busy but I just didn’t get much reading. About an hour of reading おチビがうちにやってきた for ~15 pages. I am going to finish this one sooner or later but it’s something I’m basically only reading during the readathons now.

ありがとう! I’m feeling much better. I took my sos pills, and trapped myself in yet another doc visit. But everything looks 10000+ times better now that the pain is gone :')

Bakemonogatari manga volume 4 34 pages the manga doesn’t even have page numbers I had to count them myself

Just 143 pages sorry I wasn’t really in the mood for reading and I wasted time with other things like playing video games in japanese. I will try to read more next Readathon.
