Couldn’t think of a good title for this. Is there a specific name for the phenomenon where in jukugo the final kana of one of the characters’ readings shifts to the あ row?

Shifting to あ seems most common from my experience, but there are other shifts too. The first one that comes to mind is 木立, which is read こだち.
I don’t know what’s it’s called, but I’m also curious if it has a name.
I’ve been wondering about that as well! I’ve been collecting them for a while:
For the き → こ shift, there’s also 木陰 こかげ
Do you know of any examples of a non-あ shift other than 木 becoming こ?
I did some searching around and found 黄金 - こがね. From the searches I did in the app I use it looks like there might be a couple more than just that.
Ah, good one. I never really made the connection on that word.
黄金 reminded me of 金色 (こんじき), but I’m not sure if that’s the same phenomenon, since the sound change is at the start of the word, not in the middle.
It would probably just count as a different reading (I suspect it’s the same for 木 being read こ as well).
Looks like the two forms are called 露出形 and 被覆形
Yeah 金色 is just a different 音読み
There’s also some using 白
白髪 【しらが】 (n) white or grey hair, trendy hair bleaching, (P)
白菊 【しらぎく】 (n) white chrysanthemum, (P) (which WK teaches)
Thanks for your list! ^>^
I just read the word 居酒屋 in a sentence and this topic came to mind. I’m guessing 居酒屋(いざかや)follows this idea with さけ to さか + rendaku etc.
