I am getting tired of Kurihara’s obsession with hidden rooms. (I wonder where he would suspect a hidden room in my apartment ) In the Tokyo house his theory seems plausible, but in the grand-parents’ house it is rather far fetched. Whoever hides in this narrow room would have to be fed somehow and use the bathroom from time to time. To go there there is no other way than through the hallway. What would he do if someone else wants to use the bathroom while he is inside?
Of course the hidden room could be much larger than in Kurihara’s drawing, there could be a hidden apartment of 10 m width, complete with kitchen and bathroom. But why would they do this?
I think you read next week’s section because this week ends before kurihara exposes his theory (although I also skimmed ahead a bit to see what he was about to propose)
Is there anyone left at this point who is not reading ahead? I have found it impossible to resist, but it has made me a bit scared to contribute to the conversation
I was not reading ahead until about an hour ago
I mean, I‘m on next week’s assignment only, which is starting in a few hours‘ time anyway, so I thought it’s fine
But if literally everyone is reading ahead, then I think I‘ll do the same and probably finish the book over the weekend. I have some other more difficult books at hand, and it’s easier to read them without switching back and forth.
If really everybody is reading ahead, then we could just have one thread for the rest of the book where we comment on everything
I haven’t read ahead, because I binged the last third of セーラー服と機関銃 way ahead of time during the last book club and realized that I prefer keeping up with discussion weekly. I think especially so for this book as it’s fun to come up with wild theories based on the information we have so far.
But I’m not opposed to accelerating/ reading ahead if that becomes the consensus opinion.
I just binged the rest of this week’s reading. Since it’s technically the 14th already for me, might as well continue (will post the thread in the morning though)
But yeah, if most people prefer to race through the rest of the book I’m happy to do that too.
I thought people were more likely to notice the new thread (and we can always start doubling mid-week if there’s a strong consensus) but honestly I’m not sure.
Or maybe simply in the home thread?
Maybe make a poll to decide where the poll should be?
Often with book clubs I don’t for exactly the reason you mention.
I am for this one and finding it useful.
But it is one reason why I personally haven’t voted for the increased pace. (Plus ダンジョン飯 has just started and now I am on double book club pace)
Because of this (and FMA and ウスズミ) I would rather keep week 7 as it is. And I also think it makes more sense to keep the break on the chapter end. I would be okay with reading the final chapter in one or two weeks instead of three.
(But if the consensus is different, then that’s okay, then I’ll just read at my own pace.)
I just read the weekly portion for Week 7 and it went by very fast, so I wouldn‘t mind reading more. But if some people want to keep the slower pace, I‘ll summon my most iron self restraint and keep to the club‘s pace. The weekly speculation sessions are too much fun.
I’m behind some at the current pace so doubling would make it even harder to catch up. I’m around halfway through week 4 now. That’s why I’m voting to keep the current pace and not speed up. I think I can catch up before the end though.
