I made a post before asking about which of the two verbs between のぼる and あがる better matched “to climb” since my teacher says one and WaniKani says the other. But my post got taken down 
so hopefully this one stays up. Again, I’m not sure if it’s a nuance thing between the two words or if one is right and the other is wrong.
(I made a typo in the prior post and wrote あげる when I intended to say あがる)
あがる is for something to rise
のぼる is for the subject to climb (notable exception that it can also mean to rise for things like the sun) something like a mountain
So both can be mapped to the english word climb
The stock price climbed: 
上がった
The man climbed the mountain: のぼった
But requires you to understand that in any sentence where you would use the word “climb” in english, only one will be correct in japanese because they are different words.
