覚えておいて huh?

Heyyoohh

Just came across this usage of 覚える, was wondering if anyone could explain how it’s used? I’m assuming the ~ておいて is some grammar I haven’t learned yet…

Thanks!!!

It is indeed. It means to do something “just in case” or “for the future”. So you’re asking someone to remember it because it’ll come in handy later.

You’ll often see it shortened as 〜とく as well.

More here (under the header of “Using the 「~ておく」 form as preparation for the future” )

Awesome thank you!
