文プロ(Bunpro): オノマトペ Deck - April 8th, 2024 - Japanese Grammar and Vocab SRS

That’s how they get you. :eyes:

Seriously though, you should probably send them an email to make sure they look at it right away.

I tried out bunpro when it was early beta. Didnt care for it much then. Decided to try it out again and gotten much better. The sentence audio works well also like the “light mode”.
Ill likely be singing up soon, hoping for even more improvements.

Hi,

Sorry if this has been asked previously (didn’t get a chance to read every single thing on this thread), but is there a way to skip lessons? I’m about a N4~N3 and I just signed up. Alas, it looks like i have to start at the N5 in order to move up.

Wanikani was the same, but just wondering about this fantastic resource.

Thanks,

I’ve been using this for a couple weeks now and I love it  Are you planning on adding N1 and the remainder of N2 soon? If not, what time do you think it will be completed?

@solo7100 Hello! Thank you for your question. The Study feature was put in place for those who prefer to have more structure with a set number of lessons to follow. However, we originally created Bunpro for those self-studiers out there who prefer to choose when, what, and how much to study so that is why we have the Lessons page.

The Study page batches a number of grammar points together, so that you can go through all of them at once and be quizzed at the end. The batch and JLPT level can be set in settings so that you can immediately start studying from the JLPT level of your choice. After you have studied a batch, the quiz at the end automatically adds those grammar points to your review queue to be made available again in four hours. Right now you can study an unlimited number of batches, but we recommend that you take your time and familiarize yourself with the content and really feel comfortable before moving on. The Readings that you click on in Study will automatically be ticked in Lessons (so that you can keep track of what you have read).

The Lessons page allows you to choose which grammar point you would like to study (you can choose any grammar point from any JLPT level). Each grammar point has information on your streak progress (this is viewable even if you added a grammar point from Study), as well as a fourth option to add your own sentences to show up along Bunpro reviews in your queue. Each grammar point in Lessons also has the ability to add one-offs to your review queue to become immediately available for reviewing.

We hope that this answers your question! If you ever feel lost, try giving the +Guide button (located in the top left of each page) a click. If you still have further questions we would be glad to answer them.

Cheers!

@Whologist Thank you for your kind words and your question! We are currently going through N5 - N3, cleaning up any inconsistencies, polishing current content and bolstering the site with additional sentences so that each grammar point has 12 example sentences and 12 study questions. We are approaching the point where we will be adding more upper level content. We hope to have something available to you in the near future. Thank you for your patience. Cheers!

Hello punshindawood,

First of all, thank you for your tool!

I’m sorry if the question has already been asked but even with ctrl+f, I couldn’t find it.

My Question: Why do I have only one question (in my reviews) per grammar point when these grammar points have multiple rules?
For example; る-Verbs have 2 rules (in their first lesson). Which are the basic verb and negative verb. In my reviews, I would like to minimally have the 2 rules (and optionally have many of the 12 examples from the lesson)

You’ll get a different sentence the next time you review that grammar point.

I know it’s kind of selfish to ask for this, but even as a fan-made script, it would be lovely to have an “anki mode” available for Bunpro! Having pain in my arms, going through all the reviews hurts, so having an option where you don’t have to type your answers would seriously be a life-saver

It’s really good to see some new resources added to grammar points I’ve already learned, is there an easy way of finding out when new resources are added? (Apart from going through all my learned items individually).

I always like to keep checking back on old grammar points to revise every now and then.

@Maxinoume Thank you for your question! As @seanblue has said, when you answer a review question correctly, the next time you are quizzed on that grammar point it will appear in a different context. There are 12 example sentences with 12 corresponding review questions, so if you get each review correct you will never see the same sentence pop again in your reviews. Please let us know if you have any more questions or if there is anything that we can do to improve your experience with Bunpro! Cheers!

@nandeyanen Thank you for your suggestion! This is actually something that we are thinking about incorporating into Bunpro in the future. Stay tuned. Cheers!

@ambo100 Thank you so much for taking the time to compile the Marugoto Elementary 2 (A2) Rikai page numbers for us! They have been added to Bunpro. We do not currently have a way to notify you when new resources are added or when old ones are updated, but it is something that we will be looking to add in the future. Thanks again! Cheers!

Thanks for your answer!
It would be better (in my opinion) to have reviews for each rule of every grammar point. Because right now, if (for example) I have difficulties with the past negative of the polite form of u-verbs, I will fail only on the (let’s say) 5th SRS lvl. Then the next day, I will be asked the specific sentence I failed the day before, so I will easily remember it and then I won’t see this grammar rule for a few weeks, potentially (because the time intervals become bigger).

So for now I added some custom reviews.
Nonetheless, I really like this app. Thanks for your contribution to my learning experience and I will definitely become a paid member in a week when my trial ends!

I’m super delighted to hear that! I will!

Jumping in here to say I really appreciate Bunpro.

Specifically, the things I like most (so don’t ever change!) are the pointers to explanations elsewhere on the web (Tae Kim, Imabi, etc.). It helps me to see the same thing explained many different ways. I think this could even be a much larger list for each grammar point.

Minor nits:
Some of the grammar points are similar enough that I only get them right once I start recognizing from repetition which one you’re asking for. Examples off the top of my head: for a beginner, the difference between ~んです、〜でしょう, or 欲しい vs. ~たい. Some of the sentences will recognize that and prompt for the other, but not always. など and でも seem very similar and also close together in the lesson order, so I’m always mixing them up, even though I think my sentence is also grammatically correct (but, beginner, maybe I’m wrong.) Maybe the prompt could ask more specifically, at least at first?

It might be helpful for the user input in the sentence to be stylistically different from the rest of the sentence (font, color, size, something). I often lose my place halfway through typing and have a hard time locating where I am in the longer sentences.

I love it though, and plan to keep using it through all the JLPT levels!

I tried to send this thru the bunpro web feedback form but got some weird message (bug?).
Please: add in the settings: ability of user setting Japanese font size relatively to English font size.
Even with my glasses, it is quite uncomfortable to read the examples in the lessons.
Zooming does not help as the English font becomes too big…

@Maxinoume Thank you for your insight and interest in subscribing! In an ideal situation we would have 12 example sentences and 12 review questions for each grammar rule or verb conjugation. However, many grammar points have a number of grammar rules which means we can only show how the grammar point behaves in a certain context with a handful of examples. It is our goal to account for this by adding additional review sentences in the future that, perhaps, would not appear under example sentences, but be activated if you were having trouble with a certain context/conjugation in reviews. We recently implemented Ghost Reviews to drill items that need extra attention, but, like you said, these sentences are ones that you have seen before. We hope to have more contextual situations that you can practice different conjugations and multiple grammar rules in the near future. Thank you for your patience. Cheers!

@ctmf Thank you for your comment and your suggestions. We have updated the など and でも grammar points to help steer you in the right direction when you input your answer. We like the idea of altering the color/style of the input so that it is easier to distinguish from the rest of the sentence. We will see what we can do. Cheers!

@sergiop We apologize that you experienced issues with the feedback form. We will look into it. Thank you for your suggestion on adding the ability to toggle the font size. We will see what we can do. Thank you for your patience! Cheers!
