I was trying to differentiate the southern U.S., versus the Continent of South America.
Also, I realize that was kind of a hard to translate phrase. I now realize I was trying to say it was popular here and equate them. ( Mochi, it’s a Japanese thing. Haggis it’s a Scottish thing. Sauerkraut it’s a German thing.)
「かたい」は、physicalにhardなものにつかうよ。
hard as in difficultのときは、「むずかしい」をつかいます。
ゆきみだいふく、とかかな。

You can say it like this too:
