Isn’t onomatopoeia great?! There’s a wonderful book about Japanese onomatopoeia called “おなかぺこぺこオノマトペ I’m PEKO-PEKO Hungry!” that is full of wonderful illustrations to describe Japanese onomatopoeia. You might enjoy it!

Are you making a wiki for this thread, or is it just going to be random posts? It’s already up to 50 posts by now, so very hard to navigate I feel. Hard to know what’s been posted and hasn’t as well.

Maybe a simple index, where people also link to their post with the example sentence would be great as a way to navigate the thread.

I’ll make an index in the OP when I get the time, with links to individual posts. Not sure why it would need to be a wiki.

By the way, it’s fine to repost a word that’s already been posted. We’d just have more examples this way.

Well, I guess, is just intend for this to be your own thing you’re doing, sure, then it doesn’t have to be. :woman_shrugging:

Not my own thing, I’d like everyone to contribute if they like. I was planning to update the index myself (once I make it), but I guess a wiki would be easier to maintain, that’s a good point.

Added an index to the OP and made it a wiki. I’m glad you prompted me to do it now rather than later, @ekg, because it was already much more work than I expected.

I just felt like I forgot about this thread after it started, and when I revisited just before we chatted, I realized I didn’t know how or what to post! :joy: It was just overwhelming a bit. XD

Yes, I realized I come across much more onomatopoeia in the books I’m reading than I was expecting, so I’ve added a lot rather quickly. How to post should be straightforward though, there’s even a very simple template in the OP.

For sure, I spotted the template. For me, it’s more about whether I think I can contribute or not to a thread, which might not be the case. I certainly can’t offhand name 50 onomatopoeia, but I think I have encountered a lot, especially in all the audio media immersion I’ve done. I’ll try to make posts with example sentences going forward! ^>^

Thank you, any contribution is appreciated! I just add them the moment I find them, otherwise I’ll just forget, and even if I remember, tracking down the exact sentence after the fact can get tedious.
