Struggled with “ちゃぶけるから！これじゃ用紙がちゃぶけるから” here.
Ichimoe was useless,
DeepL went completely NSFW bonkers on “ちゃぶけるから” :flushed::flushed::flushed:

Had to do research

「破ける」とか「壊れる」という意味だと思いますが、どこの方言なのかは…。

On a hunch I guessed that it might や rather than ゃ. If I dropped the ち I’m left with 破る in it’s potential form. “It can tear the paper.” But, then I can’t explain the ち attached to it.
Having read chapter 11 now, I really wish chapters 10 and 11 were read together. I feel like the punch line for chapter ten IS chapter 11. Its fine, its just hard for me to not read ahead. But my wife bet me that I couldn’t not read ahead, so I cant read ahead.

Now this is just a hunch that I came up with after I read your solution and you might be right.
My guess is, that it is なければ いけません in a very colloquial form (e.g. X なっちゃった)
So the simplifed sentence could be これ(砂けし)は 用紙が 破れちゃう*
*not sure on the verb form here
So the sentene might roughly mean: “This will tear the paper for sure / This just has to tear the paper (if I use it).”

Please correct me if I am wrong. :slight_smile:

I have a different question on chapter 12, page 118:

There we can see Yukko scream あああ, but these come with the little ” on them.
How are these pronounced correctly?

I couldn’t understand this page completely, but looks like 二フラム is a spell name in Dragon Quest games that extinguishes enemies. :smiley:

My question is:

page 109

もう これ ツバでこするしか

I found that こする could be 擦る which means to rub or to scrub, but have no idea about ツバ.

Found the answer to my question after watching that scene in the anime. :smiley:

It is 唾 ( つば) written in katakana.

I have one more question on page 109, the first panel.
ナッシングヒューマンライフ
Is this supposed to be… “nothing humanlife”??
Is that her quirky way of saying “I am sooo screwed!!”? :thinking:
All the katakana is giving me waaay more trouble than I thought it would. :sweat_smile:

So I have to ask, because I read it this way as well, what is the underlying meaning behind “nothing human life”?

I guess it is like saying “my life ends” or something? An expression of her misery I suppose.
Though I am not sure if the broken english is because japanese people don’t know any better, or if this is showing how bad Yuukos english really is :sweat_smile: Might be another layer to the joke.
She is taking an english exam after all
