Wkstats abandonned?

I use the wkstats pages that I really appreciate for tracking.

I was wondering if the developpment is still active as it seems WK content is not up-to-date.
Quite a few kanji that have been added to WK are missing (probably radicals and vocab too?)
Also the projection pages has been inactive the 6 months I have been using it. (I imagine that is probably a change on WK side though)

Is the developper by any chance part of the WK community ?

I don’t think wkstats has seen any development in forever but it pulls the data straight from the API so it should have all the latest content updates.

Can you point out which kanji or radicals are missing for you?

Maybe it failed to refresh your WK content, are you sure the API key you provided it is still valid? If you click on your username on the top-right of wkstats you can manually refresh the data or logout to log back in. It might help.

I don’t think linking with my account is problematic as all my progress updates just fine, but possibly relinking accounts could have an effect on the database, I will try that.

I just had this one today from level 33 : 儲 , but I have encountered a few similar cases which I can’t recall more specifically.
Once I remember WK just added a new kanji (around level 20-25?) and I noticed no update even a few days later in WKstats

It does show up for me

interesting, so my account is not updating as it should.
I will try to relink my account later tonight. thanks!

I realise it does show up for me as well in the page you show,
but not in the kanji only page (Items>JLPT page).

I now remember it was also the case last time, this page specifically is not updating

I think it’s probably just that 儲 is not part of the JLPT list, whatever that is.

There are a couple alternatives.

(shameless plug) [UserScript] WaniKani Stats - #38 by DaisukeJigen
Adds stats to WK itself, as a new tab.

Then there is [iOS, Android, Web] Wanilog, modern WaniKani stats , which I haven’t really checked out, but from the screenshots, seems nice and fancy.

it does indeed seem that page’s database entry is not dynamic and not updated anymore :slightly_frowning_face:

I have tried a few but preferred wkstats every time,
however I haven’t looked at these 2 yet thanks!

The page is updated, it’s just that the kanji is probably not in whatever widely used JLPT list wkstat uses. Since there’s no official list anyway, there’s nothing worth updating.

Consider the joyo page: wkstats

This one also doesn’t list 儲 or even 嘘 (which is not a new addition) but that’s because those aren’t joyo kanji. They shouldn’t appear on this page. Meanwhile 僅 which is a recent addition and a joyo kanji is correctly listed.

you’re right.
well jlpt classification doesn’t mean much anyway so I shouldn’t bother really

The original WaniKani is not anymore maintained, but the code was recently open-sourced so additions are possible. I have taken the freedom to play around with it a little. If you want to check it out see this post here: [STATS] Statistics site - #1560 by LeonKat

So if there is anything missing and you want it added I can try it as soon as I have time. As I am no Kanji Master yet  help with what is missing + JLPT / Joyo Level would be appreciated!

Oh, damn, I really liked Wanilog. Thank you!

@rfindley is the developer of WK Stats. Here’s the thread:

Here’s the web version of https://wanilog.com/, basically the same as WKStats but presented a little different. (I like WKStats better, but I could see people preferring a different layout)

WK stats is still perfectly serviceable btw. Wanilog is a more modern ‘slick’ replacement app which has most of the functionality WK Stats has, plus some other nice extras. That said I still like the clean presentation of WK Stats and use it on a daily basis for the dashboard page.
