Why not give overdue correct reviews a small SRS boost?

If item is overdue by weeks or months and I still get it right, that feels like useful memory signal.

Why can’t WaniKani account for that somehow instead of only moving the item up one stage.

Some overdue bonus similar to Anki. Remembering something after a long gap should probably count for more than remembering it right on schedule.

What do you think?

I feel like I agree with you but the system wasn’t built that way. Does anki give bonuses for late items remembered correctly? I haven’t used anki in a while so maybe I haven’t noticed that. The idea makes sense. If it’s due in a week or a month and you come back three or four months later and get it in one try maybe it’s too easy for the stage it’s at. The way WaniKani has rigid stages and anki has more flexible time intervals might make that easier to implement on anki though.

I’m pretty sure Anki does. I found a few community forum posts that mention things like disabling the SRS bonuses.

I do agree with the bonus for remembered items so long as it’s toggleable, since WK only has “yes/no” while Anki has multiple options with different SRS timers.

I think that’s a great idea as an option. But unfortunately it can’t exist for the same reason you can’t manually burn items, skip to a higher level, skip items that aren’t useful to you (military terms) have a built in undo button, or any other feature that could speed up your progress outside of WK’s rigid structure: how are they gunna collect that $9.00 a month once you’re finished?
