Whoa can someone explain this vocabulary please

Hi everyone!

Just doing the regular lessons and I come across this kanji for “the end”-末.

I was like, oh okay maybe end of a book, or end of a string, something idk. But then I see the context sentences and im completely thrown off. Theres not even an explanation for more meaning so im very confused. Can someone provide more explanation for it? Thanks!

Could think of it as the end of a line of siblings. The eldest sibling uses 長, as in 長兄 (eldest brother), with 長 the sense of “leader”.
