トーフグオフィスをおとずれたさい、とても厚いもてなしを受けました。
When I visited the Tofugu office, I received a very warm welcome.
Was doing my lessons, and even though Wanikani teaches this as thick, here it’s used as warm? A thick welcome?

Meaning #2
真心がこもっている。心が深い。
WK often uses words in the example sentences that go beyond the default meanings, which they probably shouldn’t do. Also, it’s just a coincidence that it’s “warm” in this sentence when other あついs also mean warm. It could be cordial or friendly if you wanted.
So for example, could I say the following?
先日、とてもやさしくて厚い人に会った。
僕が旅館に参った時、店員は別に厚くなった。
Well, it’s hard for me to judge how natural those are, but that’s a meaning in line with the dictionary definition.
