What's the difference between 日's on'yomi readings?

I’ve been having a hard time with the 日 on’yomi readings every time the kanji appears in the vocabulary section. I never know whether to use じつ or にち. Why does certain vocabulary use じつ while others use にち? Is there a difference between the two readings? Does anyone have any tips for knowing which reading to use?

Usually when a kanji have two or more onyomi it’s because the words using this kanji have been imported from China from different century or from different region, thus the original Chinese pronunciation was different.

So, unfortunately, most of the time there is no rule… :sweat_smile:
