Whats the best way to deal with the masses of compound verbs?

Yes, I think several nuances of 〜出す were covered in Tobira as well  . I’m trying to think of a verb which would mean both the more spontaneous, from the inside alternative to 〜始める and “to get out of”, but my Anki deck for verbs has only 〜出す compounds with one meaning or the other.

And oddly enough, many of the ones I do have, are actually transitive and more in line with the regular meaning of 出す as you said :joy:

I mean, even hecking 言い出す is transitive despite the fact it might not feel like it is.

やり直す is the one I remember tripping me up.

My reading ability really took off once I had to look up things less and could skip over bits I didn’t know and look them up after reading the whole sentence like how it is in English.

Jalup has a pretty good card for that which just has the definition as 深く思う which has been a good basis for figuring out how the meanings can be derived, at least for me.
