What happened to 以来?

I’m 99.9% sure this word existed in wanikani. But it no longer seems to.

There was no issue with the definition (at least as far as I can tell with my meager Japanese abilities). Since / Hereafter.

Was it an intentional removal? Or a bug? Not sure why it would disappear. Unless I dreamt it existed!

Well, I don’t know about this particular word, but I know that some words have been removed from WaniKani, so it’s possible it was added and then removed at some point…

There is Since / Hereafter, but it’s 以降(いこう).

API can access removed subjects as well (not sure if all in history), but I don’t see 以来(いらい).

以来 is on iKnow, did you ever use that?

You may have just assumed it was on WK, I do that all the time when I see a word with kanji I know. I always think I forgot the meaning, but then it turns out to be some new word I didn’t learn on WK at all.

There’s also the visually similar 外来 on wk…

Nah this was 100% removed or one crazy case of the Mandela effect

They removed 力強い, too… :sob:

I have a dump of WK’s vocab entries using the API dating from last January, the only change involving 以来 since then is the disappearance of this example sentence for 穴場:

あのことがあって以来、もう二度とああいう思いをしたくないし、周りにも迷惑をかけたくないので、フグ釣りの穴場に行くことは止めました。

Ever since then I’ve never wanted to have that kind of experience again, or to cause trouble for others, so I’ve stopped going to the little-known place where you can fish for fugu.

There are still 3 other example sentences involving 以来, but if a vocabulary entry ever existed it would been purged before the 28th of January of this year and not using the usual deprecation method which I find very unlikely.

Hey! I can confirm that 以来 is not on WaniKani, nor do I see a paper trail that it ever was on my end. Pretty spooky! :ghost:

Yes!! This is it! I was definitely getting it confused with 以降

Thanks! And sorry for wasting everyone’s time!

I also had the feeling that it was on wanikani but it could’ve just been seen in context and figuring that the kanjis are taught here it makes sense. Do you happened to use bunpro? It’s taught there.

i use bunpro more then wk lol, i probably learned it from other sources then, like youtube or genki

No, I don’t use bunpro but I have an Anki deck containing 以来 and wanikani has the similar 以降. So no issue with WK, it was all a classic case of my mortal enemy, memory interference.

Glad I’m not the only one :joy:
