Weird context sentences not helpful

So I’ve just done the midair kanji 宙 and one of the context sentences is this:

うちの猫はたまに口を開けて宙を見る時があります。

My cat sometimes opens her mouth to look in the air.

and I have no idea what the English means! I sometimes get rather frustrated with the context sentences, which are way too difficult particularly at beginner-intermediate level.

I don’t mind having the odd random context sentence, but often many of them are rather complex for learners, and not super helpful. In this case though, the sentence doesn’t even make sense, so how are we supposed to learn how to use the vocabulary? Does anyone else get frustrated by this?

It would be good to have context sentences that properly convey the meaning of the words learned, with relatively simple grammar, or a few different levels of difficulty.

Some cats have a habit of staring into the middle distance with their mouths open. Something like this:

But yeah, it’s not the smoothest-sounding English translation I’ve ever seen either, which probably isn’t helping.
