Finished this week

I enjoyed how annoyed the cops were with this house full of mystery nerds :joy:

「はい。降りていました。私は指紋を残さないよう、注意しながらそれをはずして出ました」
いい心掛けだ、と褒めてもらうことはできなかった

kind of made me laugh. I also enjoyed the 何々さんの名に賭けて bit. Overall it’s developing a bit slow for my taste, but I like the banter. I also remain thinking 石町 is suss.

Yeah, I agree that the pacing is a bit slow, but I guess that’s just how it is. The other Arisugawa books I’ve read are also a bit on the slower side, but they were in remote and isolated locations so it felt a bit more natural than some random house. Oh well, that’s how it goes.

Also agree that the banter is amusing. I definitely need to slow down and sometimes read it twice to get what they’re saying/trying to say, but I think I’m getting it! Which is neat. (Way back in, like, 2013 probably I started playing Tales of the Abyss (in Japanese) and everyone was telling me how much I’d love Jade and I just… didn’t. Because I did not understand 嫌味 and read everything straight!)

So the study might have just been a simple string trick, but if they don’t lead us on about it, it’s not great but I guess it’s not too bad. I don’t like the logic of “Oh if they took too long to complete the string trick then the stuff would’ve finished burning anyway” because in that scenario they could have just left and the stuff would’ve finished burning before anyone else discovered it, but whatever…

Presumably the old guy had something to do with the fire from the prologue/backstory and the papers burned were documents that would reveal something about them, but what exactly would it be? That fire seemed like a major event that would probably have an investigation, insurance paperwork, etc., so not sure what special thing this one guy could have/know. I guess we’ll find out!

We’re pretty sure one of you is a murderer, anyway please go upstairs and try to get some sleep while said murderer is right down the hall
