Although I essentially got the same gist as you guys with Kaede’s sentence on p90 - その方がカオスじゃないスか - why’s it translated it as ‘more chaotic’ than less chaotic? I read it literally as, ‘That way, no chaos right?’
その方がカオスじゃないスか
I understood this as asking a negative question, i.e. “wouldn’t that be more chaos?” Which is a style of question we ask in English as well. If I had to parse it down, I’d do something like:
[そのほうが]
[that way (more)]
[カオス]
[chaos]
[じゃないすか]
[isn’t it?]
interestingly, almost 100% of uses of じゃないか i’ve encountered so far have this flavor
There was a comic in my book back when I was cramming for the JLPT that really captures how painful this can be
