Hi everyone!
I’ve been working on a tool called Nareru and just opened it up for public beta. I wanted to share it here because I think it hits a “sweet spot” that many WaniKani users look for once they start moving from isolated kanji/vocab into real-world reading.
What is Nareru? While WaniKani is amazing for building your foundation, Nareru is designed to help you “capture” the Japanese you encounter in the wild (manga, news, light novels) and turn it into smart flashcards instantly.
Key Features:
-
Context-First: Instead of just adding a word, you paste the whole sentence. Nareru identifies the key vocab and keeps the original context.
-
AI-Powered Nuance: If you’re stuck on a specific grammar point or a subtle difference between two similar words, you can ask the built-in AI for a deep-dive explanation.
-
Dynamic Reviews: It doesn’t just ask for a translation; it generates questions to test your actual understanding of usage and grammar.
-
Progress Tracking: Includes heatmaps and stats to keep you motivated.
Why use it with WaniKani? I built this to be the “bridge” between SRS levels and native material. When you see a WaniKani vocab word used in a confusing way in a real sentence, you can throw it into Nareru to “own” that specific usage.
The app is currently in Public Beta and is Free to Join.
I’d love to get some feedback from this community specifically, as you guys really know your SRS!
