Wayyy to slow

But youre really not facing the facts. You say that theyre a business, yet you refuse to believe they already make the most rational choices after however many years because you dont agree with it. Leave it to the people who actually know best about this stuff, the people who have kept this service alive and running for years. If theyre really missing out, I’m sure they’ll make changes.

the only people complaining about how slow WK is , are beginners !
level 1 to 3 or 4 !

you should stop complaining , use it and see what happens next and see why we do not complain when we are at higher levels !

Right. I think thats close enough to what i was thinking.

The very beginning of WaniKani is a lot slower than what your typical workload is going to because of how few items are available to start with. As others have pointed out, the pace picks up once you get a few levels in. By the end of level 3, you should have a decent idea if of what it’s going to be like so you can decide whether you want to continue or not.

That said, definitely email us about a refund. There’s no need for you to pay for free content, after all.

I’ve watched Koichi talk about language learning on the Tofugu YouTube channel and it’s always apparent that he really knows his stuff. I trust that WaniKani has had a ton of thought put into it and I think that shows in the people that have successfully completed it and learned what the program set out to teach.

Oh I 100% agree and must stress that while I think many things can be improved here, I will be subbing in the next day or two and buying a lifetime membership at Christmas.

To say anymore would be to just repeat myself and for that, I’ll just wait a few days until this topic is raised again

AAHAHAHA!!! I don’t think I have done anything of significance on any weekend of the past 6 months… My girlfriend has thrown the towel. I’m basically wired up to this website, I might just as well make it my homepage. (I lead a sad life… thank you crabigator!)

But it may be a habit thanks to a discord im in :3

Thankfully I’m still trying my best to fit in other studies where I can. I definitely don’t want to be one of those who reaches level 60 and hasn’t done anything else so they don’t know how to move on afterwards.

Simple solution: If you are bored, just start studying ahead. There is always something to do. Since you paid, can look at all levels with mnemonics. Unless you have a great memory, you will probably want to do this anyways and keep your reviews at a high pass rate. I think using the SRS system alone for practice is not a great idea IMO if you want to keep moving forward w/ progress. I review old words or look ahead just to stay fresh as missing Burns is painful.

What if the slow start gets us in the habit of treating reviews like blessings so that later when we get swamped with reviews for years on end we still power through with praise for the Crabigator on our lips

WK uses SRS, if you’re not familiar with this method, take a look at the WK guide specifically the “Hold on, I have to WAIT?” section.

These really need their own sub-section, maybe then people will stop asking x’D

SRS is more about the “space” and less about the quantity…Nobody is suggesting the the space needs to change as SRS is a proven successful tool but rather allow the quantity to be adjusted…there is absolutely no correct number of things to learn per day so why put one limit for everyone regardless of the many variables?

iirc, the first two levels actually do have shorter intervals than the rest, in order to counter-act the slowness. It just is going to feel slow anyways until things pick up in the middle. And letting people “rush” at the beginning would probably increase the “overwhelm” later on.

Guys… why go so hard on the OP? Unlike most cases, they did say they love WK :man_shrugging:

@mahodeus, please have a read of my Guide for WK, mainly Chapter 2 (as it answers your question)
