A friend (in Japan) told me that the intonation and pronunciation in the wanikani voice recordings are strange. Especially the female ones.
Is Wanikani voiced by non-native speakers? If so, are there any plans to replace them with native Japanese recordings one day?

A Japanese friend of mine made the same assertion, but it was such a long time ago I couldn’t tell you which vocab it was about.
Probably just different dialects/accents/etc.
Not everyone in an entire country talks the same.
No matter who you get to record the audio, someone will say its strange/wrong.

To give some serious feedback, I think there might be something wrong with the recording environment. Most of the recordings done for newly added words (plus some from levels 51-60 which I’m working through now) have this strange sound to them. Some of them sound echoey or like there’s feedback/vibration in the sound.
I wonder if WaniKani could just hire Hard Gay to re-record all the vocabs and also example sentences. It will be expensive but worth it!
